PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (June 2, 2019) – The St. Lucie Mets snapped their four-game losing streak with a 6-4 victory against the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Sunday afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park.
The Mets pounded out 11 hits and five players registered multi-hit games. Mets outfielder Quinn Brodey got the team off to a good start by hitting a two-run homer in the first inning. It was his fifth of the season.
With the Mets leading 2-1 in the sixth inning, Manny Rodriguez ripped a two-run single with the bases loaded to open up a 4-1 advantage. Carlos Cortes added a sac fly later in the inning to make it 5-1.
Jacob Zanon delivered another sac fly in the seventh to put the Mets ahead 6-2.
The Stone Crabs tried to rally in the ninth but fell short. Zach Rutherford blooped a two-out, two-run single to right field to make it a 6-4 game. Later with two runners on base, Joe Cavallaro struck out pinch hitter Moises Gomez to end the game.
Cavallaro was credited with his first professional save.
Mets starter Luc Rennie kept the Stone Crabs off balance most of the day. He only gave up three hits in 5.1 innings. He allowed two runs and walked two while striking out a pair. Rennie got the win to improve his record to 4-2.
Darwin Ramos pitched three innings out of the bullpen behind Rennie. He did not allow an earned run and gave up just one hit.
Jeremy Vasquez and Dan Rizzie went 2 for 5.
Alfredo Escalera and Rodriguez went 2 for 4.
Cody Bohanek was 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and was hit by a pitch.
The Mets (27-28) return home to First Data Field on Monday to start a four-game series against the Tampa Tarpons. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.

Positions that probably need upgrades are: 1. Relief Pitching 2. Outfield 3. Staring pitching. In other words the infield should be fine come 2020 ST with 1B Alonso 2B Hechavaria SS Rosario 3B JD Davis. The outfield is somewhat tricky to figure. I like Micahel Conforto, he can get you 25 homeruns as we have see before, but it is his batting average. I would probably rebuild the outfield. I see only McNeil back as a certainty. Kelenic would have been nice for 2020. But he is gone now. Maybe Dominic Smith in left and McNeil in right. Works for me. Then get a superstar center fielder. One who can hit 25 homeruns a season. Then, it is done.
I think Mazeika and Ramos will be fine at the catcher position in 2020.
Now the bullpen. The Mets need to get a couple of MiLB Mets in there. Definitely Gilliam, maybe Uceta or another as the second. NO more up and down yo-yo relievers. They are up and down because they are simply not good enough to stick with the parent ball club. Maybe take one more attempt at a real clos

The rotation could possibly be something like deGrom, Kay, Wheeler, D. Peterson, and Triston McKenzie. Maybe bring a sixth starter in so that the 2020 rotation does not end up like the 2015 one is about to. Save arms sacrifice the individual accolades.
