John From Albany – Mets Breakfast Links 1/11/2020

Winter ball updates below, the Mets come to terms with all 9 arbitration eligible players, and Sam Haggerty finds a new home.

Per SNY.TV, the Mets Friday agreed to deals with all of their arbitration eligible players.  Here are the deals: Marcus Stroman - $12 million, up from $7.4 million in 2019; Edwin Diaz - $5.1 million, up from $607,425 in 2019; Michael Conforto - $8 million, up from $4.025 million in 2019; Seth Lugo - $2 million, he made $591,875 in 2019; Steven Matz - $5 million, he made $2.625 million in 2019; Brandon Nimmo - $2.175 million, up from just under $600,000 in 2019; Noah Syndergaard - $9.7 million, he earned $6 million in 2019; Jake Marisnick - 3.3125 million deal, he earned $2.212 million in 2019; Robert Gsellman - $1.225 million, he earned $582,500 in 2019.

FANGRAHS had the top 31 Mets prospects.  They had Ronny Mauricio #1, Andres Gimenez #2, Mark Vientos #3, Brett Baty #4, Matthew Allan #5, Francisco Alvarez #6, Thomas Szapucki #7, David Peterson #8, Franklyn Kilome #9, Shervyen Newton #10.  Some other notable names: Walker Lockett #28; Tylor Megill #29.

SNY.TV reported on Baseball America’s top 10 Mets Prospect list: 1. SS Ronny Mauricio; 2. C Francisco Alvarez; 3. 3B Brett Baty; 4. RHP Matthew Allan; 5. INF Andres Gimenez; 6. 3B Mark Vientos; 7. LHP Thomas Szapucki; 8. RHP Josh Wolf; 9. LHP Kevin Smith; 10. LHP David Peterson.

Metsmerized said the Mets should be exploring a trade for the Padres Austin Hedges. Per Tim Ryder: “A .201/.257/.360 career slash line over five seasons is not good. His .176/.252/.311 line over 102 games in 2019 is even worse. But once you get a look at Hedges’ defensive metrics, where his value lies becomes crystal clear. The 27-year-old finished last season with 20.7 FRM (FanGraphs), 20 runs via extra strikes, and a 54.1 percent strike rate on all pitches (both via Statcast), leading MLB by a wide margin in both categories.”

Reds minor leagues.com looked at three players in the upcoming 2020 draft: Arizona State first baseman Spencer Torkelson; Georgia Pitcher Emerson Hancock; Right-handed pitcher Nick Bitsko.

Big night yesterday for Carlos Gomez in the Dominican Republic.  The two time Met went 3 for 5 with 5 RBIs in the 9-3 Aguilas Cibaenas win over the Tigres del Licey 6-0 (box).

Dario Alvarez pitched two scoreless innings with no hits, no walks, and a strikeout.

Matt Pobereyko did not record an out his last time out and gave up the game tying 3 run homer.  He was better last night going one inning giving up one run on one hit.

In the other game, the Toros Del Este beat the Leones del Escogido 9-8 in 12 innings (box).

Cesar Puello went 2 for 5 with a run scored, RBI, walk and 2 strikeouts.

Not the best start for Raul Valdes as he went 4 innings giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, 5 strikeouts.

Tim Peterson pitched one inning, giving up 1 run on 2 hits, with one strikeout.

Ramon E. Ramirez went three innings giving up just 1 hit and one walk with 3 strikeouts.

In Puerto Rico, the Indios de Mayaguez beat the Gigantes de Carolina 2-1 (box).  In that game Hector Santiago threw 7 shutout innings in the loss giving up just 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 6.
