Kinda surprised at Tropeano, very surprised at Shreve, one of the few (two?) lefties in the bullpen.
69 - I was surprised by Shreve as well. Apparently the reasons why is that he was out of options and was due to make almost $2M in arbitration. Maybe they can bring him back as a Minor League Free Agent after the Rule 5 Draft on December 10th.
I was looking at Shreve's stats last night - he has a 2.3 K to BB ratio in his career - he does walk a lot of hitters. That was my main beef with the bullpen last year - they didn't throw enough strikes (or they threw too many not strikes).
Some of the other peripheral stats show a pitcher who had some good fortune last year. A quarter of the hits he gave up were home-runs.
I also suspect that Sandy is not done and there is a lefty reliever in their sights (Brad Hand?)
There is another free agent out there - I think I'll try to start a motion to hire Edgardo Alfonzo as the Mets bench coach! Without BVW, it's time to bring Fonzie back.
