Press Release: Game Recap: Ponies Fall to Yard Goats in Series Opener

 


BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (36-47) fell 1-0 to the Hartford Yard Goats (28-56) on Tuesday night in the series opener at Mirabito Stadium. Hartford's Willie Abreu hit a solo home run in the second inning accounting for the lone run of the game.

Abreu's homer in the second off RHP Connor Grey was the only blemish for the Ponies righthander. Grey (1-2) allowed just two hits over six innings with one walk and five strikeouts in the loss. Justin Dillon pitched two scoreless innings in relief and Tommy Wilson pitched a scoreless ninth.

The Rumble Ponies were 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position and left 12 on base. Their best opportunity was when they loaded the bases with 0 out in the bottom of the sixth but failed to score. Ryan Feltner (3-2) got the win for Hartford allowing 8 hits over six and a third innings with three walks and nine strikeouts. He combined with relievers Zach Matson, Reagan Todd, and Will Gaddis for the shutout. Gaddis retired the Ponies in order in the ninth for his second save of the year.

For Hartford, it is their first shutout since they blanked the Ponies 7-0 on Aug 16, 2019 in Binghamton.

The two teams continue their series on Wednesday night with first pitch at 6:35 PM.

POSTGAME NOTES: Carlos Rincon doubled in the first extending his hitting streak to 12 games, tying Mark Vientos for the team-high…Rincon has reached base in 15 of the first 17 games he has played with the Rumble Ponies…Jake Mangum, Luis Carpio, and Yoel Romero all had multi-hit games.

Ponies shut out on 9 hits? Sounds like the club in Queens.

Still no Vientos sighting, or even announcement of the reason.
