Mack - 5 More Prospects Shooting Up The Boards

Yes, it’s early, but there is already some action causing rankings to change on both mock drafts and draft charts by position.

Here are five more:

RHP Grant Taylor

11-29-22 - D1Baseball @d1baseball

RHP Grant Taylor was almost unhittable against Louisiana in the LSU baseball fall games.

@GrantTay27 stood out in a big way, sitting 94-97 mph with his FB & a softer breaking ball at 79-89 mph.

C Kyle Teel

12-6-22 - Fall Report: Virginia - https://d1baseball.com/fall-report/virginia-2022/ -

It starts with the return of junior third baseman Jake Gelof and junior catcher Kyle Teel, the cornerstones of the Virginia lineup and two elite prospects for the 2023 draft.

Virginia 3B Jake Gelof Teel is one of the best athletes in college baseball, to the point where Virginia brought him out from behind the plate to play right field some in 2021 while he and veteran backstop Logan Michaels shared catching duties before it became Teel’s job full time in 2022. Defensively, there is still some refinement to be done, but he moves extremely well and he has a plus-plus arm, which gives him a high ceiling in that regard.

Offensively, Teel has done some nice things. He drew 41 walks compared to 36 strikeouts last season and has 15 career home runs across two seasons, but he’s looking to take the next step, which would help Virginia begin to replace the production from departed outfielder Alex Tappen, who had a breakout campaign as a fifth-year senior last season.

2B Trevor Austin

12-2-22 - 2023 MLB Draft: Ten Rising Hitters To Watch - https://d1baseball.com/prospects/2023-mlb-draft-ten-rising-hitters-to-watch/ -

Trevor Austin, 2B/OF, Missouri– The Tiger’s top position prospect shows both hit ability and power potential with a selective, yet aggressive approach and above average bat speed. The compact built (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) right handed hitter is an average runner underway and an average defender at second base. He has the tools, skills and resume (.297/.417/.476 in 2022) to be considered for mid-Day Two in 2023.

SS Cole Emerson

12-1-22 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

I scraped HS data from everywhere I could. Synergy, TruMedia + PG. Got sample sizes of 80+ PAs for most. Here are guys that *really* stood out this summer:

Kendall George

Colt Emerson

Ethan Mendoza

Rafaelle Velazquez

Michael Perazza

Max Clark

Zion Rose

Ashton Larson

Casey Borba

                        12-1-22 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

Colt Emerson was particularly cerebral and explosive.

OF Colton Ledbetter

12-2-22 - 2023 MLB Draft: Ten Rising Hitters To Watch - https://d1baseball.com/prospects/2023-mlb-draft-ten-rising-hitters-to-watch/ -

Colton Ledbetter, OF, Mississippi State– Ledbetter put up big numbers as a sophomore at Samford last year, hitting .318/.407/.640 with 16 homers, 16 doubles and 14 stolen bases, then tore up the NECBL this summer, hitting .383 with a league-best 11 homers and 45 RBIs in 141 at-bats, along with 11 steals and more walks (26) than strikeouts (25). At 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, Ledbetter is a physical specimen with serious athleticism that plays in center field, where he has good range and a strong arm. And he has a smooth, powerful, well-connected lefthanded stroke as well as a knack for barreling up hard line drives. He has Day One draft potential and a chance to be an All-American this spring. Prospects that are good will have good MLB careers, but the Mets are stuffing their stockings for 2023 with amazing depth:

Scherzer, Verlander, Senga, Quintana, Carrasco, Diaz, Robertson, Smith, Megill, Peterson, Lucchesi, Raley, Curtiss, Greene, Montes, Riding, and back end pick ups. I’d say they are done with pitching, unless he wants one more. Some rumor they might want Correa. If so, I wonder if baseball allows a team to trade the remainder of Cano contract if they no longer have the player. Ship Baty and Vientos somewhere for Cano $, Ruf and McCann?
