Tom Brennan - Francisco Alvarez, Superstar

ANYONE NOT SEE THE EXTREME TALENT AND DETERMINATION?

Francisco Alvarez had his skeptics pre-season - many of them.

In mid May, he had just 1 home run in his first 50 ABs.

Just 4 RBIs.

Now after two long homers last night (does he hit any other kind.), he has 19 HRs, 18 of them in his last 169 at bats, and 35 RBIs in that span, a truly sick pace.

I think it’s safe to say:

Francisco, Alvarez, superstar

I can’t believe the Mets have a 21 year old offensive superstar in their midst.

Three years younger than when Pete Alonso debuted.

Thrilling indeed.

I remember saying to myself,

"oh my"

Same reaction here. And he is exceeding those expectations. Imagine the death spiral this team would be in if he had an ETA of 2024, instead of this year. He’s giving them FIGHT.

Tom,
The Mets have signed their top 10 draft choices:
Wyatt Hudepohl, P, 4th round for $500,000
Zack Thornton P, 5th round for $350,000

If what I am reading is accurate they are now over their allocation by $329,450 and will have a tax on their overage of 3.0 %.

This is now Alvarez 's team. As of last night he is now the leader on and off the field. Not Pete, not Lindor. He's the face of the franchise front now on

Your kidding?

Steve Cohen loves to pay taxes. I read the Gilgo Beach killer was perennially in large back tax debt to IRS. Still owed over $80,000.

How did he get away with not having the IRS foreclose on him to pay what he owed?

Lots of wealth guys cheat on their taxes. Politicians cut funding to IRS making it difficult to prosecute and identify.

Alvy should easily surpass Bench's record of 26 HRs by a Catcher under 22 y.o.

Gary Carter's 32 in his best Mets season is in reach this year, and I wouldn't rule out the highly inlikely chance of his reaching Piazza's Mets high.

It has gotten to the point that in a clutch late-inning AB I have more confidence in him than any of our veterans.

Yes and it took till now to move him up in the batting order...IDIOTS! Also lefty DJ in Porky's DH spot interesting and nothing much said about it.

In answer to Anonymous, no I'm not kidding at all. Watch it develop as the year progresses. The kid has leadership oozing out of his pores. This team is in desperate need of a strong leader. Lindor does take charge sometimes on mound visits, but he will slowly concede that to Alvarez. The pitchers already love him and he's a "I don't take anybody's shit" kind of guy. Lindor smiles and chats with opposing players. Pete? He's a frat boy, dry humping the railing and dropping f bombs. Not to mention breaking bats over his thigh when he gets frustrated. He's an oversized kid. Alvarez will slowly take more and more of a leadership role moving forward. This guy's the real deal.

Trade Pete! Thisnis Alvarez team now.

Tom Brennan said...

Joe, that would be an earthquake, trading Big Pete.

If we can 2 or 3 top prospects in AA or AAA we should strongly consider it.

Extend him, extend him,no trade him for prospects
