Good morning...
It looked like the Jeff McNeil injury ended the Trade Baty people for awhile.
My guess he starts at second.
As for the outfield, the good news is both Starling Marte and Brandon Nimmo are back to playing daily baseball. My guess Siri is still a lock for at least half of center and Soto is, well, Soto. This leaves Tyron Taylor and Jesse Winker as options.
I love Baty, but I still think he could be the lead chip in a package THIS PRESEASON for "that Sandy guy in Florida".
The ace of the Marlins rotation by far is the highest salary on a team that prides themselves on not paying players. He has two seasons left on his $17.5mil/yr contract PLUS there is a team option for 2027.
Baty could be part of a four player, team controlled "pick your poison" deal. Let’s say:
1. Baty
2. One of Tidwell, Tong, or McLean
3. One of Gilbert, Clifford, Morabito, Mauricio, or Parada
4. One of Ewing, Ronald Hernandez, Orellana, Raimon Gomez, Eli Serrano, or Willy Fanas.
You could then promote Acuña to second where he can double as a backup on both short and third.
You know I'm not a big fan of proposed trades but I'm making an exception for this Sandy guy.
If the Mets don’t work fast here, you might see Sandy wearing pinstripes this season.

I love your thought, but, I don’t love your options. If you take out McLean, I can try to live with it. The Yankees system is torn to pieces so don’t even consider them unless they move either The Martian or George Lombard. Even Spencer Jones is a windmill.
Back to the Mets, Baty, Tong, Mauricio, and Serrano would be what I would want, but I hope the Marlins would instead want Clifford as I don’t want one tool players.
If the Marlins would want players closer to the majors, I would offer Acuna, Baty, Tong and Gomez. I understand that now the Mets don’t have a second baseman until McNeil comes back, but to get an ace, I’d play Luke Ritter at second baseman for now or even Jared Young, rather than lose out in an ace with three years control.
But do you agree that, regardless of recent injuries, Baty should still be considered to trade?
I'll pass on that trade. We don't need to add more salary. Our pitching future is bright without Sandy.
You would pass on one of the top starters in the game for 3 years???
Sounds good to me. I would try to hold on to McLean also. The one of which of Baty/Acuna mans 2B until McNeil returns.
Would love to have Sandy on the team.
I like the trade idea. Win with aces to match the Dodgers. Do not, though, include McLean.
You have to give to get. I find Mack’s trade package light and if I were the Marlins, I would want more: Sprout, Williams, Gilbert, Tong and Baez. That would be my request. It’s three years of much surplus value for one of the top pitchers in the game, if not the top starter. And you know what, if I were the Mets, I would do it! They can afford it; they have the pieces.
Baty may become a nice player but I don’t see all-star and I’m not in love with March numbers.
Sandy is insurance for prolonged a Montas absence or a typical. Montas appearance. The rest of the rotation should be OK when Manaea returns.
I would hate to see Tidwell or Tong go, but the price would be very high for Alcantra and I think you would have to go that high. The Yankees were mentioned earlier in this string - they will drive up the price because they are much more desperate right now.
Don't think the Yankees have the talent to make a trade for Alcantra. Weak farm system.
