In Focus - Tylor Megill

Thomas Nestico                 @TJStats

Tylor Megill stepped up big time today as he struck out 6 over 5.0 IP in his 2025 debut

Megill has always had excellent stuff and it was on full display today. He will be relied upon by the Mets early in the season due to injuries, and he looks up to the task!

We knew that the Mets were going into this season with a lot of ‘ifs’ in their rotation… is Clay Holmes really a starter… is Kodai Senga fully recovered… can David Peterson repeat 2024… but there was no bigger ‘if’ than what Tylor would do once the season started.

Phil Blackburn and Sean Manaea will both begin throwing again this week. By far, Blackburn will be back first. Whether or not he bumps someone out of this rotation, or the pen, is still undetermined, but I’ll tell you this… if Megill continues to pitch this way, he ain’t going nowhere.

Late to the game with the post

Sorry

If Megill continues like this, perhaps they should trade Montas when he is ready to return in June. Reduce your losses.

Tom, unfortunately I do not believe any team in baseball would take on his salary right now

Since he had been mentioned in a previous post, I will update Jake Mangum's news. He has been recalled by Tampa and is on their 26 man roster. Yovanny Rodriguez, catcher, has been placed on the 60 day IL. I was looking forward to following him this year at St Lucie.
