For Discussion - Trace Willhoite

MLB Draft League             @mlbdraftleague

The Mets are signing the 2024 MLB Draft League home run leader Trace Willhoite to a minor league contract!

WV: 39 G, .306/.389/.597 (.986 OPS)

 🔟HR, 34 RBI, 29 R, 10 2B, 3B, 20 BB

            Frankly I love this!

I never understood why this home run machine wasn’t drafted by anyone. He went to Lipscomb University as a graduate student and anyone could have signed him for only a $10K bonus. Instead, he went undrafted and went to play in the Draft League.

            6-3      200     plays 1B, 3B, SS

In 2024, for three teams, he hit 33 home runs

In all four seasons of ball, he hit .273, and 75-HR in 1,319-AB

Sure, he struck out 329 times, but many have done this to a highest percentage

It will be interesting to see what team he opens up with. There’s definitely a need for a first baseman at the St. Lucie/Brooklyn/Binghamton levels.

If his bat is his only attribute he can work into being a DH as the Mets have failed miserably in this role since it originated in the NL.

Unless I am reading this wrong the Mets players Jonathan Tong and Pintaro both were graduates of this league.

I love power. Let’s see what he can do in the minors.

I would start him conservatively in ST. LUCIE
