MLB Draft news: Kaiden McCarthy,
RHP from Vermont and Baseball America’s No. 15 player in the 2027 class, is
reclassifying and will be eligible for the 2026 draft.
A Tennessee commit, McCarthy is a 6-foot, 185-pound
righthander whose athleticism helps him repeat a sound delivery and fill the
strike zone. He pitches heavily off a fastball with good armside run that
trended up throughout 2025, sitting in the low 90s for much of the summer
before spiking to reach 97 mph in the fall.
He complements his fastball with a changeup that has good sink and fade along
with a slider that has good depth and solid tilt.
Dominic Voegele, RHP,
Kansas
Voegele was drafted in the 20th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023, but
opted to go to Kansas instead. He earned a spot in the weekend rotation as a
freshman, starting 15 games and recording a 3.89 ERA with 80 strikeouts and 29
walks in 81 innings. Voegele is a classic pitchability arm. His stuff isn’t
overpowering, but he has excellent feel for his fastball/sweeper arsenal and is
in control of the game when he is on the mound. His command and current
two-pitch mix provide a strong foundation, and it will be interesting to see if
he can further develop his curveball and changeup to give him a deeper arsenal
to work with. Voegele is the Friday night starter for Kansas this year and
should be in the running for Big 12 Pitcher of the Year.
