The “Hot Stove” season is winding down, and there have been many MLB trades and free agent acquisitions which have possibly re-shaped the competitive landscape.
This is our final installment of the Hot Thread feature. We hope you have enjoyed it, and judging by the numerous great comments, it seems like a worthwhile series that we will re-institute next year.
Today we will look at the moves that have been executed so far and determine if there are any left to go. Give us your impressions in the comments below.

Who is left out there?
Market holdouts include Luis Arraez, Eugenio Suarez, Harrison Bader, Austin Hays, Nathaniel Lowe, Framber Valdez, and Zac Gallen.
Old Mets favorites like Jose Iglesias, Wilmer Flores, Starling Marte, Mark Canha, Griffin Canning, and Michael Conforto are available.
Dom Hamel was DFA'ed by Texas.
This week’s questions:
1. Is there room on the Mets roster for Luis Arraez and/or Austin Hays?
2. Now that the Mets have signed Peralta, is their starting rotation strong enough to begin the season? Do they hold off on other major acquisitions until the trade deadline to gauge the progress of their re-build?
3. Should the Mets re-sign Dom Hamel and/or Griffin Canning on a minor league deal?

5 comments:
No on Hamel. He should contact the White Sox.
Yes on Canning if cheap.
I personally think we have enough starting pitching. If however, arm start falling off in February like they did last year then David will have to get someone else.
Hays, I am not familiar enough with to opine. Arraez probably will want too much money for the amount ofWAR he has recently been producing
1. Is there room on the Mets roster for Luis Arraez and/or Austin Hays?
MACK - BAT WISE, I STILL WOULD BE HAPPIER WITH ONE MORE ONE-YEAR DEAL FOR AN OUTFIELDER
2. Now that the Mets have signed Peralta, is their starting rotation strong enough to begin the season? Do they hold off on other major acquisitions until the trade deadline to gauge the progress of their re-build?
MACK - I BELIEVE THEY ARE. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THE FLOODGATES ARE GOING TO COME CRASHING DOWN COME THE ALL-STAR BREAK WHEN ALL THE KIDS ARE READY
3. Should the Mets re-sign Dom Hamel and/or Griffin Canning on a minor league deal
MACK - YES TO HAMEL FOR THE SYRACUSE PEN. WHY NOT? LOOK AT ALL THE OTHER DREGS THEY HAVE SIGNED THIS OFF-SEASON.
Great series, Paul.
Look forward to it next off-season
1. Potentially Hays for depth (insurance).
2. The pitching needs to breathe. Christian Scott is likely first man up. He needs to play mlb ball.
3. No.
For these guys to not have signed yet they are obviously looking for multi-year deals...good luck with that.
1. Hard NO on Arraez. I would take a flier on Hays, on a 1 year deal. Would give Benge some additional time before eventual callup.
2. I think they are pretty much done unless something falls in their lap.
3. Hamel to a minor league contract. AAA depth. If Canning takes a low salary he could replace McGil as long man/spot starter.
I still envision Scott in this role this year.
I liked what I saw in Hamel when he was in the Mets' system. I would definitely take a chance on re-signing him to a minor league deal. I also liked Canning - he gave the Mets some good starts before being injured. I understood the decision to release him, but that was more about filling the roster with active, healthy players. When Canning is healthy again, he deserves a shot. Since he is still unsigned, there could be an inexpensive price.
