Connecticut 7, B-Mets 3

D.J. Wabick recorded a multi-hit day for the third straight game, but it was Connecticut’s bats that ruled the day, knocking 15 hits en route to a 7-3 win. Wabick went 2-4 in the game and 7-12 in the three-game series loss to the Defenders, 2-1.



Connecticut (22-18) led 3-0 heading into the sixth innings, when the B-Mets got on the board. Wabick singled to start of the frame. A Jackson Williams passed ball allowed Wabick to move to send and Josh Petersen’s groundout moved him to third. With one out, Lucas Duda drove a flyball to right that allowed Wabick to tag up and score, making it 3-1.



The Defenders came out firing in the bottom half on the inning, knocking out the starter Eric Brown after two reached with one out. Stephen Clyne came on in relief and proceeded to induce a flyout off Williams’ bat for the second out. However, with two outs, Connecticut went to Brett Pill to pinch-hit for the starting pitcher, Henry Sosa, and Pill came through with a two-run single. Clyne went on to give up two more runs in the inning to put the Defenders ahead 7-1.



Binghamton (18-20) scrambled back in the top of the eighth with two runs on back-to-back RBI doubles from Petersen and Duda, to cut the margin to four at 7-3. However, the run-scoring ended there for the B-Mets as closer Daniel Otero came to throw a scoreless ninth inning to seal the win.



Brown threw 5.1 innings giving up five runs on nine hits to take his third loss of the season. Adam Bostick, in his second outing since returning from the disabled list, threw two scoreless innings to end the game.



Duda went 2-3 with a double and two RBIs and Petersen drove in one thanks to a 2-4 performance with a double.
