B-Mets 11, New Britian 8

The B-Mets overcame an 8-6 deficit in the ninth inning to tie the score and send the game into extra innings where they would eventually win 11-8 in 10 innings at New Britain Stadium Sunday afternoon. Josh Petersen went 3-4 and was on base in five of his six plate appearances including the two-run single that put Binghamton over the top in the tenth.

Down 8-6 entering the ninth, things looked bleak with Rock Cats closer Anthony Slama on in relief. However, Slama walked Petersen, allowed a single to D.J. Wabick and walked Salvador Paniagua to fill the bases. Ruben Tejada brought Petersen home with an RBI single to left moving everyone up a base to get Binghamton (32-56) within a run. Then Jose Coronado lofted a flyball to right-center for a sacrifice fly scoring Wabick to tie the game.

Slama was replaced by Carlos Gutierrez after blowing the save and Gutierrez needed just one pitch to induce a double-play groundball off the bat of Emmanuel Garcia to end the threat.

After Connor Robertson threw a scoreless ninth, the B-Mets loaded the bases against Gutierrez thanks to a pair of walks and an Ike Davis single in the tenth. Petersen stepped up with the bases full and nobody out and singled past the drawn infield into centerfield to score Jonathan Malo and Davis to put Binghamton on top 10-8. Wabick followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Duda to end the scoring in the tenth.

Robertson shut the door in the tenth after allowing a leadoff single to pick up his first win with the B-Mets.

Gutierrez took the loss after allowing three runs in 1.2 innings to fall to 1-3 on the year. He took the loss after Slama blew his third save of the season in 22 chances for New Britain (46-43).

Tejada became the fourth B-Mets player to notch four hits in a game as he went 4-6 with a double and two RBIs. Thanks to a fifth-inning double, Duda extended his hitting streak to 12 games, a season long for a Binghamton hitter.
