Cutnpaste: - Taylor Buchholz, Lucas Duda, Brad Holt, Mike Pelfrey, and John Stearns

Taylor Buchholz:

Taylor Buchholz could make as much as $1.2 million in his one-year contract with the Mets. Buchholz signed with the Mets for a base salary of $600,000 and will earn an additional $400,000 if he makes the 25-man roster and is not on the disabled list. He could earn $200,000 more if he makes 60 appearances, maxing him out at $1.2 million. The 29-year-old right-hander hasn't made 60 appearances since his last full season in 2008, but similar to the Chris Capuano signing, the Mets won't mind rewarding him if he makes it there - rotoworld.

Lucas Duda:
Make no mistake, Duda has raw potential and the ceiling remains high for the slugging outfielder. But, his game would be best suited if he starts out in the minors than with the big club as the fourth outfielder. Much the same way Jenrry Mejia should not have been part of last season’s initial bullpen, Duda should not be on the roster because his talents could be put to better use in Buffalo. Duda had a rude welcoming to the big leagues. Duda struggled out of the gate and went 1 for 33 in his first 13 games. However, Duda surged toward the end of the season and hit 16 for his last 51. Duda wound up finishing the season barely above the Mendoza line (.202 avg.) with four home runs and 13 RBI’s in 84 at-bats - mets360.

Brad Holt:

Matt Eddy: Three sources whom I trust advocated for Brad Holt as one of the Mets’ top pitching talents. It’s really as simple as that. “I actually really like this guy even though he’s performed poorly,” one said. “He’ll be fine,” another assured me, adding, “The stuff is there, but mentally he didn’t always show up.” A third opined: “He’d have four good innings and then fall apart.” - stlucietoflushing

Mike Pelfrey:

Starting pitcher – Pelfrey and Niese are interchangeable in value, depending on what you’re looking for. Pelfrey is a better pitcher at the moment — if only because he throws more innings — but is arbitration eligible for the next three seasons, making him more expensive than Niese. A team in win-now mode would rather have Pelfrey, but a team building for the next few years would rather have Niese. These two make nice rotation pieces for at least the next three years, but the problem is the other three slots. - bleacherreport

John Stearns:

Was a two sport athlete at the University of Colorado. The Phillies drafted him number two in the nation, and he was also drafted by the Buffalo Bills. Had power, good eye, and even some speed (stole 25 bases in 1978). Known for tackling Braves mascot “Chief Noc a Homa.” His ’77-’78 numbers (27 homers, 128 RBI, .367 OBP, 34 steals) were probably the best for a Mets catcher not named Carter, Piazza, or Hundley, but the reckless play caught up to him as he fizzled shortly thereafter. Younger fans might remember him as the Mets bench coach under Bobby Valentine who yelled “the monster is out of the cage” before the 2000 NLCS. Runs Mets Fantasy Camp each year, and I can tell you from personal experience that he hasn’t lost his passion for the game. - nybaseballdigest
