#12 RHP Domingo Tapia
Bats: R Throws: R
Height: 6' 4" Weight: 186 lb
Acquired: 2009 international signing, Dominican Republic
2012: (A) 6-5, 3.98 ERA, 2.7 BB/9, 8.4 K/9, 1.141 WHIP
2011: (R/SS-A) 6-5, 3.38 ERA, 2.6 BB/9, 5.8 K/9, 1.268 WHIP
2010: (R) 4-3, 3.45 ERA, 1.9 BB/9, 5.6 K/9, 1.255 WHIP
Here is where we really start getting into the cream of the crop and quite frankly we may have Tapia lower than anyone else who does rankings. However don't be mistaken, this kid is GOOD. 2012 was really Tapia's coming out party as his K/9 rate, groundball rate, and swinging strike rate all ticked up significantly. Tapia's repertoire consists of a four-seamer, which sits in the 96-98 mph range and regularly hits 100, a mid 90's two-seamer with a ton of downward movement, and a slurvy breaking pitch. Tapia dominated Savannah with his two fastballs but his breaking ball continues to fall behind which could have us question his ability to remain a starter. However even if he falters we could have our next closer here. I do believe that they will keep his progression slow that way they can work on his breaking pitch.
Anticipated Assignment: (A+) Port St. Lucie starting rotation.
