It was great to see RP Jeff Walters get in the game yesterday (1.2-IP, 0-R). Walters is
definitely a candidate for the 2014 pen and will probably pitching B-Mets next
month.
Well, the tail is wagging the dog again when
it comes to Mets pitchers and management. Shaun Marcum,
who obviously came to camp out of shape, has now said he has neck pain. Boy,
that’s a pain in the neck. Has anyone in the Mets organization ever thought of
instituting (and making sure it is followed) an off-season program for their
pitchers? Like maybe being tossing at some point before reporting?

Mack - The entire Met world is starting to realize what some of us minor league weenies have known for a couple of years... there are plenty of pitching prospects on this team to get you what you need in future trades. This spring alone has features guys like Hansel Robles and Rafael Montero, players even TC never seen pitch.

You first need to find someone in the organization that wants to put up with guy that long.
You need him in the rotation by early May if you want him to build up any kind of impressive stats. I don't see it happening. I just don't.

I'm sure that Sandy wont trade any pitching prospects for an outfielder until at least next off season. At the point, it'll pay to see how the team performs, zero in on the ones performing well that aren't in the team's 2014 plans, and look to move them for an outfielder.
Why trade prospects at the point? July is a long ways off and a lot can happen by then. Santana and Marcum could actually be pitching really good and then there's your trade bait.
Fortunately, you'd be hard pressed to find a team with as many great right handed pitching prospects as the Mets, and since their rotation will have four solid young pitchers when Wheeler arrives, they'll really only need just one or two of the prospects to pan put.
Think about it...Syndergaard, Fulmer, Montero, Tapia, Mateo, Robles, and DeGrom. Just need two...
Who knows, knowing Sandy, each time a prospect is ready, he'll trade a ML starter. Which will help in keeping the Mets rich in prospects and low in payroll. That's how the Rays have stated successful. My guess? Gee goes first, then Niese, but both will bring back multiple great prospects.
Yes, the Mets are built to last, but it's not their time just yet.
I've been on the chase Headley bandwagon for a little while now. He can play Lf or possibly Rf depending on who else we go after. He can hit in the middle of the lineup and is a switch hitter. I really like him as one of our corner OF options going forward, although hes going to want a pretty sizable contract, but I heard we have money now. ;-)
What's the over/under on the Mets signing recently available Chris Young to take Marcum's spot in the rotation? He's had a fairly miserable spring but as others constantly tell me when I advocate someone doing well in Florida, spring stats don't mean anything.
I really hope they don't.

All and any trades for the OF should be next year, I think it's clear that then is the target time frame.
You're right Mack, I'm an optimist. A year ago at this time some people thought Santana would never pitch again. He gave us three months of excellent pitching including the no hitter. This year I think he has a few months of good pitching in him, enough to make a decent trade at the deadline.
Charles - you so much on a niese trade at some point. Why? If he was a RH I could see it, but as a LH he's likely going to be here for the long haul with Harvey, Wheeler, another prospect (Syndergaard is my guess), and an acquisition. I think Gee is going as part of a trade for an OF.
