Mets Minor League Report – August 18

Robert GsellmanJuan Urbina

MML Players of the Day - Aug. 18: Brooklyn pitchers Robert Gsellman & Juan Urbina

Las Vegas (70-57) trims Salt Lake (74-55) 6-3.

A very good start for Jacob deGrom, but no decision: 6.0 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K.
John Church (BS, 1) (W, 3-0) blows the save when he allows an inherited runner to score, but gets the win when Vegas explodes for 4 after he gets the final out of the 7th: 1.1 IP, R. H, BB, K.
Robert Carson, (S, 11) perfect for 1.2 innings with 3 K, earns his 11th save.

Francisco Pena: 2-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI.
Zach Lutz: 0-1, 3 BB, 3 R.

New Brittain (59-68) trips Binghamton (79-48) 5-3.

Erik Goeddel: (L, 9-6) 6.0 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 6 H, (2 HR) 4 BB, 4 K. Not a good day for Mr. Goeddel.

Travis Taijeron: 1-3, HR, BB, RBI, R.
Danny Muno: 1-4, BB, R.

Jupiter (64-61) nips St Lucie (65-53) 2-1 with a run in the bottom of the 10th.

Four Mets pitchers, Michael Fulmer, Cody Satterwhite, Bret Mitchell and T.J. Chism held the Hammerheads to only 1 run through 9 innings, although they allowed 7 H and 6 BB in the process. But then . . .
Randy Fontanez, (L, 6-7) allowed a run on 4 hits, getting only 1 out in the bottom of the 10th. Randy had been pitching exceptionally well of late, with an ERA of 2.13 and a WHIP of 0.87 with 14.21 K/9 over his previous 9 outings.

Matt Reynolds: 1-4, 3B, RBI.
Kyle Johnson: 2-5.

Savannah (69-51) and Augusta (71-52) split a pair.

Savannah takes the opener 2-1.

Tim Peterson: 3.1 IP, R, 4 H, 0 BB, 5 K.
Estarlin Morel: (W, 1-0) 2.2 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, K.
Beck Wheeler: (S, 16) 1.0 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, 2 K. At 24, Wheeler should be at least in St. Lucie now, (his ERA for Savannah is 1.79 in 38 appearances) but the wealth of pitching in the Mets organization probably has him blocked.

Eudy Pina: 2-4, 2B, R.
Brandon Nimmo: 1-4, RBI, R.

Savannah’s comeback falls a run short in Game 2 – Augusta wins 7-6.

Stephen Matz: (L, 4-6) 4.0 IP, 5 R, 3 ER, H, 4 BB, 8 K. A bad luck outing. With a 2.64 ERA, shouldn’t Matz’s record be better than 4-6?

Brandon Nimmo: 2-2, 2B, 2 BB, 2 RBI, R.
Maikis De La Cruz: 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R.

Brooklyn (29-28) tops Vermont (28-31) 6-4.

Robert Gsellman: 7.0 IP, R, 0 ER, 5 H, BB, 5 K. A good outing, but . . .
David Wynn ( BS, 1) gives Gsellman a no decision: 0.2 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 H, 2 BB.
Juan Urbina (W, 1-1) then comes in to stem the bleeding in the top of the 8th, and gets the win when Brooklyn scores 3 in the bottom of the inning: 1.1 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, 2 K.

Gavin Cecchini: 1-4, BB.
L.J. Mazzilli: 2-4, 2B, RBI, R.
Jared King: 3-3, BB, RBI, R, SB.

Burlington (26-30) blasts Kingsport (31-25) 6-0.

Andrew Massie (L, 1-2) could not get out of the 1st inning: 0.2 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 2 BB.
Martires Arias comes in to pitch 6.0 innings: R, 2 H, 4 BB, 4 K.

Yeixon Ruiz: 2-4.
Jeyckol De Leon: 2-4.
Amed Rosario: 1-3, 3B.

GCL Mets, DSL Mets1 and Mets2 not scheduled today.

Fulmer was taken out in the 5th after making a putout. Did he get hurt on the comebacker? He was throwing well..would be weird to take him out mid-inning like that. I couldn't find anything on it but I hope he's okay. Any information you have?
