This
is a plea for the oppressed.
Isn’t
this what Mack’s Mets is all about? Wasn’t it originally created so the minor
league Mets players had a web site they could feel safe on and be fairly
represented (come on Stinny… it was only a joke…).
And
forget the players. Do you realize how many friends, girlfriends, Moms, and
relatives real Mack’s Mets to see how their ‘favorite player’ is doing in the
Mets system?
I
started hyping Eric Campbell after he came out
of Boston College in 2008 and batted .260 for Brooklyn (215-more at bats) the
same year. .260 is a great batting average for a player just entering ‘the grind’
and Campbell was already showing he could handle multiple (1B, 2B, 3B, RF, LF)
positions effectively (6-E in 68-G).
Campbell
will never be mistaken for Miquel Cabrera; however, he never has embarrassed himself
with a bat in his hands. His three best years were 2010 for St. Lucie (170-AB,
.335), 2012 for Binghamton (394-AB, .297), and last year for Las Vegas (341-AB,
.314).
Oh…
if you’re worried that he bats right and only does well against lefties… last
year: .339 v. LHP, .302 vs. RHP.
Only
downside… has never played shortstop and isn’t about to start playing it now,
but no one on this team has earned a shot more than Eric has. I used to say
that about Josh Satin and, see, I told you I was right.
Make
room for this guy.
He’s
a major league baseball player.

Add my vote to that, Mack. Just 4 K's in 38 appearances in his first real major league spring camp, very impressive, as was his .490 on base % the last 2 months of 2013 in AAA...and his HR the other day DID in fact remind me of Cabrera, even if Eric won't hit many as a rule. Man, he ought ot also consider catching - he'd be a major league shoo-in if he could. But he should be anyway. He is a year late - last year, he'd have been at worst a 4th OF. Keep up the great work if you read this, Eric.

On Campbell: I like what I've seen of him, but I see him now in the same role as Satin, and I don't see room for both.
Satin is on the 40; Campbell would have to bump somebody to get on.
Satin has proven his ability with the bat at the ML level; Campbell hasn't.
Neither can play SS, and a spot on the bench must go to someone who can.
Nothing wrong with starting Campbell at Wallyville, with a mid-season promotion in the wings if a spot opens.
I loved the chant today... "let's go Soup..."
