2014 prep class. As a junior, he hit .406 and stole 38 bases over 32 games. On
the mound, he had a 0.99 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 114 K/18 BB over 73 innings. He
tossed two no-hitters and struck out 2013 fifth-overall pick Clint Frazier

7-1-13 - Two Georgia high school outfielders, Clint
Frazier (fifth overall) and Austin Meadows (ninth overall), headlined this
year’s Major League Baseball Draft. The 2012 MLB Draft featured local Georgia
standout Byron Buxton (second overall) who is already making noise on the professional
circuit. Next year’s draft could sport another Georgia high school outfielder
in the early rounds: Michael Gettys.
Gettys’ stock seems to be on a continuous incline at the 2013 18u WWBA
National Championship, which is hard to do when you’re already at the top. Gettys stood out to scouts as a five-tool
player at the Perfect Game National Showcase, impressing as a pitcher and an
outfielder. Gettys hit 94 mph on his fastball, recording an outfield velocity
of 100 mph (an event record), ran a 6.46 60-yard dash, and kept scouts very
busy during his batting practice session. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=8731
7-5-13 - Michael Gettys, RHP, Gainesville HS (GA) -
The 6’-2” right-hander put on a show at the Perfect Game Nationals. He hit 100
mph from the outfield, 95 mph on the mound and ran a 6.4/60, firmly placing
himself among the elite of the 2014 class. A great athlete, he hit .406 and
stole 38 bases over 32 games as a junior. On the mound, he had a 0.99 ERA, 0.74
WHIP and 114 K/18 BB over 73 innings, including two no-hitters. In an interview
I did with 2013 fifth overall pick Clint Frazier, he said Gettys was the
toughest pitcher he faced all year after striking out twice against him in
their match-up on April 12. Committed to Georgia. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/prep-arms-chicago-cubs/34856#Vp7zJ4JvRevfV1fR.99
7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft
- 7. Michael Gettys, CF/RHP, Gainesville HS (GA) - 6'2/200, R/R, Draft Day Age:
18.62, Georgia commit, Full Report & Video - Quick Take: Known primarily as
a pitcher entering the summer, Gettys showed plus-plus speed, arm strength and
bat speed to go with at least average power in a June showcase before working
91-94 mph with an above average breaking ball on the mound. Most scouts prefer
his upside as a hitter and there's questions about his ability to hit off-speed
stuff but he could move up this list with a strong spring. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 13.
Michael Gettys, OF/RHP, Gainesville HS (GA) - Maybe the most all-around
talented prep player in the draft, the 6’-2” right-hander excels at just about
everything on the baseball field. He plays the game at breakneck speed, much
like fellow Georgia native, and fifth-overall pick in last year’s draft, Clint
Frazier. He may have higher upside as an offensive player where his plus speed,
plus bat speed and power rank him at the top among outfield prospects. He can also
sling it 100 mph from the outfield, which would allow him to play all three
outfield spots at the next level. On the mound, his fastball can touch 95 mph
and he adds a mid-70s curveball. He posted a 0.99 ERA, 0.74 WHIP with 114 K/18
BB over 73 innings as a junior. Frazier told me he was the toughest pitcher he
faced all season. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99
8-13-13 - The Perfect Game All-American Classic in
San Diego - * Michael Gettys (Gainesville High School, Ga.) has as good of
throwing arm as any outfielder as I’ve seen in my time doing this, and when you
combine that with above-average power and 70 speed, and you get scouts to
giggle like school children. With that being said, Gettys is incredibly raw,
and he struggled with the breaking stuff he saw over the weekend. The talent is
impressive, but it’s extremely raw. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/08/thoughts-on-perfect-game-all-american-classic/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Height/Weight: 6-foot-2, 205 pounds
B/T: R/R Draft Day Age: 18 years,
7 months Commitment: Georgia Scouting Notes: Physical and athletic; built
like a free safety, with a strong upper body; clearly has raw physical tools;
run is easy plus; clocked a 4.03 to first in game action; gets out of the box
fast and reaches top speed very quickly; arm is a hose—looks like a 7
(plus-plus); batting practice performance stood out; loud contact from easy
swing; barreling up everything; game swing was still impressive, but didn’t
find the same contact; not sure about the recognition; don’t see impact bat but
red ass player with tools and a chance to hit.

8-30-13 - Like Buxton and Demeritte, Michael Gettys
is a two-way player with a plus arm who has been clocked at 100 mph from the
outfield and can hit 95 mph on the mound. Also like those two, his offensive
potential should override his upside on the mound. Aside from his plus arm,
Gettys also has plus speed, plus bat speed and showed some serious power at the
Under Armour All-American Game home run derby at Wrigley Field. One of his home
runs was a moonshot to dead center field and several others were high arching
bombs to left. Pitchers don’t typically do things like that. In fact, most of
the people around me at the game agreed when I stated, “That’s not a pitcher.”
That’s not to say he couldn’t make it as a starter. Aside from his fastball, he
has a nice mid-70s curveball and is very aggressive on the mound, attacking
hitters without fear. He tossed two no-hitters as a junior and posted a 0.99
ERA, 0.74 WHIP with 114 K/18 BB over 73 innings. On April 12, in a heavily
scouted game between Gainesville and Loganville, he struck out 2013
fifth-overall pick Clint Frazier twice. He has the size, stuff and mentality to
make it. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/michael-gettys/37172
9-1-13 – Petco Game - Michael Gettys (CF) (R/R) 6’2″
205; Grad: 2014 Gainesville, GA Large frame w/compact, muscular build. From a body
perspective, it’s similar to a Mike Trout look. Uphill swing w/extra juice at
contact. Exceptional RAW power has the ability to put them in the seats during
BP. Swing geared for FB and still working on pitch recognition in game; some
swing and miss to CB. Burner on the bases. More than enough range for CF and playable arm anywhere in the OF. Can’t
miss 8arm and still remains his best tool. Bat remains suspect, but if he puts
it together you’re looking at a complete 5 tool package. Big upside here.

8-15-13 - Under Armour All-Star Game – Michael
Gettys, RHP/OF: Perhaps the best two-way
player in the draft, Gettys has 1st round potential as a pitcher and outfielder
but most seem to like him as an OF'er where he has the potential for all 5
tools including, of course, a rocket arm.
He's a high energy player, a style that remind some of Clint Frazier,
who was also a Georgia prep product.
Gettys is faster than Frazier
with a better chance to stick in CF.
He's an explosive player but all of this is leading to his one weakness
-- his approach is every bit as aggressive as the rest of his game. He goes up there swinging. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2013/08/2014-mlb-draft-ua-game-roster-and-preview-plus-more-tickets-and-meet-up-information/
9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 – 13 – OF Michael
Gettys – Gainsville (GA) HS – Gettys could easily be drafted as a starting
pitcher, but it’s his bat that’s going to get him to the major someday. Stood
out at the 2013 18u WWBA National Championship. Showed some serious power at
the Under Armour All-American Game home run derby at Wrigley Field that caused
his summer stock to rise so rapidly. Throwing speed from outfield: 100

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 6. Seattle Mariners —
Michael Gettys, OF, Gainesville HS (GA)
There isn’t much to nitpick about the 6’-2” right-hander with all five
tools. He has plus speed, an arm that has been clocked at 100 mph from the
outfield and, with great bat speed, the power is coming fast. A two-way player
with great stuff on the mound, his future is in the outfield where his speed
and arm make him a legitimate center field prospect at the next level. Another
kid who I got to see launch bombs out of Wrigley, as well as show off him arm
with a strike to third base from centerfield, the Mariners would be getting a
high character kid with as much talent as anyone in the 2014 MLB draft. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99
10-9-13 – Early Pick for Cubs - Michael Gettys, OF,
Gainesville HS (GA) - Theo Epstein and Co. have always made it clear that they
will take the best available player in the 2014 MLB draft over need. Gettys, a
6’-2”, 200 pound right-hander, may be the best available player when the Cubs
are on the clock. A plus runner with a plus arm, he has been timed at 6.43 in
the 60 and his arm has been clocked at 100 mph from the outfield. I got a
chance to see him at Wrigley for the Under Armour All American Game and, after
seeing him deposit a home run to dead center field, the power is real, too. With
excellent bat speed, he should be a high-average hitter, giving him all five
tools. He has a strong, linebacker-type
build — similar to that of Mike Trout — and has added 50 pounds to his
frame over the last two years without losing any of his explosiveness. I had
the opportunity to interview Gettys and you can read it here. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-early-targets-chicago-cubs-fourth-overall-pick/38723

11-23-13 – Michael Gettys - Body: Strong Athletic body with sloped
shoulders. He has a muscular but lean
frame. He has a long limbs and a very strong
lower half. Swing: Gettys’ stance
starts slightly open with his hands above his shoulders. His stride is about a 65 degree stride that
helps him keep his hips closed. He has a
shoulder rotation trigger in which he closes up his front shoulder. This will help him keep his hands back on
off speed pitches. He has a very short
swing that is direct to the ball with a high finish giving him lift. He shows above average to plus bat
speed. He does show very good pitch
selection. He could hit for avg and power at the next level. Base running: Plain and simple, Michael is a burner. He has been clocked at 6.42 in the 60
yard. He gets a very quick step out of
the box. He shows very good instincts on
the bases and the ability to read pitchers to get a good jump. Defense: Gettys has good instincts in the field and
shows good routes for his age in CF. He
also shows good reactions on his first step.
All that being said, he has a canon for an arm. He throws 94 off the mound and shows an even
better arm from the OF hitting 100mph. Summary:
Michael Gettys is a two way player, but I think his futures is roaming
CF and terrifying pitchers at the plate.
Gettys is a toolsy player and still has some refining to do which is
going to just make him even better. For
me Gettys is a top 10 pick and maybe even a top 5 if everything comes together.

12-4-13 - Jim Callis @jimcallisMLB - Highly unlikely. Tools too good, he'll get
paid. @mygodafreshman: any chance UGA gets Michael Gettys to play college ball?
B/R – 11-21-13 - 7. Philadelphia Phillies: Michael
Gettys, OF/RHP, Gainesville HS (Ga.) - Even though he’s capable of pumping
low-90s fastballs off the mound, Michael Gettys' most realistic future is as a
center fielder. Possessing plenty of strength at 6’2”, 200 pounds, Gettys is
one of the top runners in the 2014 draft class, showcasing plus-plus speed on
both sides of the ball. At the dish, the
right-handed hitter has shown improved bat speed over the summer and is
expected to offer at least average power at maturity. His secondary skills and
pitch recognition are both raw but figure to improve as he continues to gain
experience. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1860341-2014-mlb-mock-draft-early-first-round-projections-for-all-30-teams/page/10
12-10-13 – TTF – Top 50 HS Players - 4. Michael
Gettys OF, Gainesville HS (GA) - The 6’-2”, 200-pound right-hander has all the
tools, it’s just a matter of refining them a bit. His arm has been clocked at
100 mph from the outfield, he can run a 6.4/60, and I saw him crush a home run
to dead center at Wrigley Field that went halfway up the bleachers, so the
power is there. Focusing more on being a hitter this year than a pitcher should
help his progress, and he could easily be the first prep player taken off the
board. Committed to Georgia. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99
12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press -
8-OF/RHP Michael Gettys Gainesville HS (Georgia Commit) 10/22/95- He is
probably the most exciting player in this draft with his 5 tool potential as an
OF and his powerful arm off the mound. I like him, as a position player personally
as his tool set is game changing. He has plus speed with a plus arm (throwing
100 from RF in a showcase) but with his aggressive approach he still lacks the
elite status because of his swing and miss potential. (Phillies @ 7) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/
1-3-14 – TTF Baseball - 8. Colorado Rockies — Michael
Gettys, OF, Gainesville HS (GA) - The latest in a long line of studs out of the
state of Georgia, Gettys is a 6’-2”, 200 pound right-hander who has silly
talent. His arm has been clocked at 100 mph from the outfield, he can run a
6.4/60 and his plus/plus speed shows up on the base paths as he swiped 38 bases
over 32 games as a junior. The power is also there, and I saw him hit a shot to
dead center field that went halfway up the bleachers at Wrigley. Some have
questioned his tool a bit as he didn’t have a great showing at summer events,
but with him focusing more on hitting than pitching this season, I fully expect
him to squash those doubts. Committed to Georgia. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-2/40753#ppGUqI6CbWFvzsPf.99
2-5-14 -
Michael Gettys, OF, Gainesville HS (GA) - Maybe my favorite prep player in the
2014 MLB draft, Gettys, like Zimmer, shows every tool except present power.
Although, I did see him launch one deep into the bleachers in center field at
Wrigley Field, so it is definitely there. His arm was clocked at 100 mph from
the outfield, and he can run a 6.4/60, showing plus speed that does show up on
the base paths. He swiped 38 bases over 32 games as a junior last season and
has the instincts to be a threat at the next level. I also saw him make a throw
to third from center field that was right on the money without a hop. The
6’-2”, 200 pound right-hander still has some work to do at the plate, but with
a full year concentrating more on hitting than pitching, I fully expect him to answer
his critics. A ton of upside and a high character kid. Committed to Georgia. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-dark-horse-candidates-chicago-cubs-first-pick/41075#UeYBipV5rOuYd7xE.99
