Jacob deGrom went 6 1/3 scoreless as the Mets win their home opener
against the Phillies Monday afternoon at Citi field by the score of 2-0. It was deGrom vs former Met Aaron Harang and
the offense for both teams took a back seat to the hurlers on the day. The Mets
managed the first run of the game in the bottom of the 4th inning,
when after Daniel Murphy doubled and moved to third; Juan Lagares hit a sharp
bouncer off Harang for an infield hit that turned him around and allowed Murphy
to score. In the bottom of the 8th Travis d’Arnaud made it 2-0 with
a sac fly. deGrom improves to 1-1 on the
season going the 6 1/3 allowing 7 hits 1 walk and striking out 3. Carlos Torres came on in the 7th
with 1 out and 2 on. He retired Cesar Hernandez on a fielder’s choice and then
struck out Ben Revere looking to retire the side. The Mets only managed 6 hits on the day.
Michael Cuddyer had 2 hits, David Wright, Lagares, Murphy and Wilmer Flores also
hit safely. Harang went 6 allowing 4 hits the 1 run while walking 1 and
striking out 4. He gets the loss falling
to 1-1. Jeurrys Familia pitched the 9th for his 2nd save
on the year. The Mets are now 4-3 on the year (1-0) at home. Tuesday night it’s
game 2 of the series. Matt Harvey (1-0 0.00) makes is first Citi Field start
since August of 2013 for the Mets, David Buchanan (0-1 18.00) goes for the Phils.

Don't look now but I believe Wilmer resembled a major league shortstop today.
Craig, I am going to make a comment that I hope doesn't offend you.
Obviously you put in time writing this recaps and the info is always accurate.
But you should uss paragraphs to enhance readability.

Id prefer an offensive avalanche, but given the struggles across the league to start, ill take wins anyway we can get them and hopefully the offense catches up with pitching. I happen to agree with Wilmer, who has struggled offensively, but has flashed some range and a really solid arm, when he hasn't been putting throws in the dirt. Given some time, I could see he defense stabilize and his offense coming around. strangely enough, I am more concerned about his bat catching up; he seems so stiff and off balance at the plate, which is contrary to the pure sort of hitters he has been profiled about.
