Hot Stove - 1-20 - 1-23-17

The Cleveland Indians have inked a minor league deal with ex-Mets pitcher Adam Wilk.

The Mets have cut P Luis De Los Santos and RP Luis Pena.

De Los Santos started five games for the Cyclones last season (6-AP) and posts a stat line of 0-5, 11.00, 2.39

Pena pitched the last three seasons for the DSL teams and combined for a 6.49-ERA in 50-appearances. There are lights out relief pitching going on down there and it is obvious that Pena was expendable.

The Mets have brought back IF/OF Ty Kelly and assigned him to Las Vegas.

He's played at every position than catcher (yes, he pitched in one game), but has played the most at third base. He had onlyone at-bats for the Mets last season (.000) and hit .193 for the Phillies in 88 at-bats.

It's heartening to see the Wilpons opening their wallets for the kind of star quality major league talent necessary to push the team into contention :)

Kelly cannot be their last big move.

Kelly is good AAAA filler.

There actually is a couple of projected infield holes at both the AA and AA level, depending upon the final landing of some of the guys that finished last season on the Mets 25-man

A perfect example is the middle infield of AA-Binghamton.

Right now, I have Guillorme, McNeil, Burdick, Evans, and Kelly at either 2B or SS in Vegas.

his doesn't include guys like Cecchini and Reynolds who there may not be room for.

This leaves no one playing SS for Binghamton (Gimenez projected for St. Lucie) and only Andrew Ely for 2B.

Mack, as long as Evans, O'Neil, Guillorme and Boyd playing time is not cut to allow him to play

I know I'll feel embarrassed when you answer, but... Who is O'Neil?

On another note, does anyone have any update on TJ's estimated return date?

Bill, should have been clearer...Jeff McNeil, not O'Neil, I was typing it as I switched trains and screwed his name up. I think if Jeff comes into camp healthy, he will turn heads. Has speed, batting average, good OB% and added bulk for added pop.

I wish everyone well, but Kelly is in my eyes a journeyman, and I think that Evans, Mc'Neil, Guillorme and Boyd have more upside...Mack would surely agree on the third name!

My guess on TJ, with no formal update, is in June. He must be dying to not lose time, but I think a player who has to gun the ball really needs 10 months...may he, however, amaze the doctors and return sooner.
