time… speaking of continued excellent pitching in this batter friendly league,
reliever Ian Krol pitched 0,2 more scoreless innings and lowered his ERA to
2.96. Hey Mets. He’s only 27.
In Binghamton: no game
In St. Lucie: SP David
Peterson had a decent start: 6-IP, 2-ER, 6-K, 6.50. It’s hard to get
excited about an ERA like this one. Touched 94… Catcher Ali Sanchez cracked the .300-BA barrier by going 20-4…
In Columbia: no game
In Brooklyn: It finally happened. RP Ryley Gilliam gave up two runs. One pitch, one two run
homer, one bown save, one loss… Joey Butto had
an equally miserable night: 4.1-IP, 4-ER, 6.10… on the good side, pitcher Eric Hanhold threw two scoreless rehab innings…
In Kingsport: SS Sheryen Newton 4-7 in a doubleheader
yesterday…

Jason Vargas
Former Clemson All-American Seth Beer was named the Houston Astros' Minor League
Player of the Month on Monday. Playing mostly with Single-A Quad Cities, Beer
hit .337 with three home runs and 12 RBIs, drawing 14 walks and scoring 14
runs, in July. Our number one draft pick... Jarred Kelenic, is hitting .170 for Rookie-Kingsport.
Michael Baron - Gsellman’s sinker just doesn’t have the
same consistent, heavy drop on it like it did earlier this year. It sits and
moves across the plate. Its why things haven't gone that well for him. Big
thing for Noah right now is getting that stamina and sustainability back up.
Remember, he hasn’t pitched that much over the last 2 years. As good as he was
until now, he has to sort of re-learn how to find that extra fuel in the end.

Why would someone say not to start Corey Oswalt? If it was a choice betweeen Oswalt and Vargas, Oswalt and Flexen, Oswalt and pretty much anyone else with the title "starting pitcher" next to his name in the Mets organization and you needed a 5th starter, he's the man. His ERA in the last 30 days is 3.68. How much better would anyone else be?
I agree with Reese. If anything, go to a six-man rotation when Matz comes back and stop carrying eight relievers.
I saw the Kaczmarski news and was happy he cleared waivers. I don't think he's anything more than a fifth outfielder, but we have so little outfield depth that it was ludicrous to DFA him in the first place.
Two comments:
1) Vargas needs to finish the season as LOOGY in the pen. See if he can fill that role. At $8 million, it's a little high, but not insanely so in today's marketplace. Blevins earns $6.5 million. Vargas could be of some value to the Mets if he can fill role in the pen. As a starter, well . . .
2) MacLeod's comment about the lying Mets owners and the media: Well, we are seeing an extremely weak media. For starters, the Mets own SNY. It's like Trump and Fox, but even moreso. So SNY is not going to tell the unvarnished truth. Secondly, the print media grows weaker on a daily basis. The NY Daily News just gutted its sports section, trimmed staff in half. Moreover, all these print guys . . . want to get on SNY! They all dream of TV time! Add to that, one of the better Mets blogs, Mets360, passed a rule that fans could no longer comment negatively on the Wilpons. It's been that way all year. You are not allowed to talk about the Wilpons. Thusly . . . missing the entire story of the 2018 season. By far the most read blog is Metsblog, which is also owned by the Wilpons. The media has been defanged and declawed. They are not coming to our rescue. They are hoping to get a job over at SNY. Mets recently appraised by Forbes at $2.1 billion. Wilpons are doing just great.
You can't talk about what they do and don't do as if they were an ordinary team trying to win pennants. It's just not in the equation.

Discipline problems?
If Kaczmarski was any good, he wouldn't have sailed through waivers. Not a single team wanted him because. . . .they've all got their own Kaczmarskis to play and develop.
He's just a guy.
It is time for Joey Bats to go, and Kaczmarski to get called up. He may not be good enough, but JB is sucking up at bats like JR is. Both need to go.
Mack, always go with Beer. Who picked him, the Brewers?
I still think Kelenic will be fine, but then, that is my guess - I don't know how an athletic kid considered the best HS kid could flop - my guess, he should be better than Nimmo long term.

Excellent news on Conforto.......if he is truly "back", then that is one less position to worry about moving forward.

Agree, Mack........I still see voids behind the plate, at third base (short term) and in center field (assuming Nimmo plays his natural position in left). That, along with the back end of the rotation and the bullpen....ugh, never mind.
Still good news, overall.
Alonso is officially HOT today. Big game.
These are very important remaining games for the Mets. Serious and accurate evaluations are necessary at the MLB level. A guy like Nimmo needs to show he can adjust. Rosario has to prove he even belongs. Oswalt needs to start even turn until his innings say no more. Alonso should be up in Sept. He has earned it. Do the right thing Jeffry.
