OPEN THREAD - P Jason Vargas
Jason Vargas pretty much guaranteed last night's outing as the last he will throw as a Met.
Zack Wheeler pitches on Friday, July 26th, five days before the deadline.
My question is this...
Do you take the best deal being offered for Vargas... FIRST... rather than waiting until Saturday morning after Wheeler's outing?

I hope we can do as well with whoever replaces Vargas for 2020 as Vargas has done for most of 2019. Last 15 starts, 3.17 ERA. That is excellent. VERY HARD to replace.
I am actually in the camp to trade Wheeler who you will lose for nothing, but keep Vargas who will cost an incremental $6 million next year above his $2 million buyout. That would be cheaper than keeping Wheeler and you would lose him for nothing unless you were stupid enough to make him an $18 million QO.
Agree what's the rush to move Vargas when we don't have capable replacements AND he's cheap? What do u all think of the Noah to the Yankees for that kid Garcia and other prospects or do u think a better deal could be had this winter?
Agree on Vargas. He is pitching well and if the Mets are not getting at least a modest prospect, why trade him?
Is Wheeler a 15M pitcher? If so, why don't the Mets try to extend him instead and trade Syndergaard if they are blow away with an offer? Would 4 years 60M + option be enough for Wheeler not taking a chance on the FA market?
Fix the BP and the Mets have a much better team.
I don't believe Wheeler is a $15 million pitcher between inconsistent performance and health issues. I would really prefer him to be someone else's expensive problem.
They should trade Vargas first and they can get a decent prospect for him, then trade Wheeler
"I literally cannot believe that I am about to type the following sentence - the Mets might as well keep Jason Vargas and pick up next season's option."
That is the first sentence of my next column, possibly coming soon to Mack's Mets!
I guess you trade anyone who is not part of the "plan" for 2020 and beyond.....especially if you can get a piece back that will be a part of said plan.
Easier said then done, of course.
I'd deal Vargas (and the cash to cover his buyout for next year) for a capable center field prospect who isn't that far away, if
possible.
Mets may be the busiest team next week with Wheeler, Vargas, Frazier rumored to be traded and now there are rumors that Noah and Diaz may be on the move.
The Mets might be the busiest team next week, in addition to trading,
Or it could be much ado about nothing.
