How I feel when Mets Players Hit
I imagine every hitter on the Mets roster circled the games in Colorado as a healing process for their batting averages.
Sure, enough, a 10-5 win last night. Marcus Semien gets four hits, Including his second homer of the season, And his average suddenly jumps up to .231. Just like that.
Soto homers. That’s a welcoming sign.
Peralta five shut out innings, but Tobias Meyers followed with 4 Runs in less than an innings’ work, making all the armchair quarterbacks recalibrate their love for Toby and their distain for Freddy just a little bit, or more than just a little bit.
One more game in Colorado today. May they score 20 runs before they get on the plane today. And, of course, win 20-0.
Syracuse won 3–1, with Jack Wenninger being masterful for six innings, and Ryan Clifford hitting his sixth home run, one of his two hits in the game, where he didn’t strike out in 4 at bats, a very positive one, for Cliff.
Binghamton one in 10 innings, 4–3. Ramos and Suero both hit home runs, but both are still hitting under .200. Kevin Parada is heating up, adding two hits, bringing his average up to .188. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Binghamton used several Hurlers and they combined for 16 strikeouts.
Joel Dial fell to 0-5, 9.13 ERA for Brooklyn, which lost 8 to 4. For once, the team’s bat started out promisingly with six hits and four runs over the first five innings, but those were followed by four hitless innings in the loss.
I am sincerely beginning to wonder if this team will ever get their batting average up to .200.
St. Lucie lost 5 to 4. The only bright light was Randy Guzman, who hit a two run shot, his seventh, and added two walks.
Lastly, the FCL Mets have begun play. They lost their first game 10–9, followed by a 3–2 win. I won’t provide updates here at this point.
That is my brief update. If one of you wants to comment on how the FCL games went, feel free.

Rare bad outing for Tobias. I'm sure it was temperature related.
It is time to DFA someone to make room for Wennington
I need link to FCL Mets box score
Thanks for the recaps Tom, as I was way too tired last night to remember about the minor league games.
Semien went 4-5 last night and if you just bat him 8th or 9th, he is fine. I disagree with everyine throwing in the towel this early. I just can’t. I don’t like Soto leading off, but the lead off man has the most plate appearances on thw team and that’s the guy I want it to be. Bat Alvarez sixth since he likes to hit DP’s, and where are Robert and Polanco?
I would trade Baty right now, but not for Walker. He’s 35. Leave Vientos at 1B for a few months.
Basically there has been a Polanco setback
Let the man get his rest; put him in the shelf and forget about him. I prefer Vientos anyway.
Even in victory, this team inspires no joy. Early smiles with a 8-0 lead turned to stress frowns when Tobias Myers came in and had his worst outing as a Met. Then Manaea made it even worse by turning a rout into a save situation. This team doesn't pick each other up - rather, they let each other down.
Stearns will hire some cast-off FA pitcher for $4M and put him on the roster instead of Tong or Wenninger. This is the all too familiar pattern.
At age 22 Houston realized that Yordan Alvarez had no fielding skills and left him at DH where he became a superstar. The only glove Vientos should have is mittens to protect him from the cold in the winter. Leave him at DH full time and we will see 30 HR( and admittedly a lot of strike outs. Also leave Baty at third and Alvarez catching. It’s time to see what we have with the baby Mets and the only way is to play them every day. Interesting how the only prospect chosen by Stearns gets to play every day
Have to be careful about making judgments about offensive prowess when playing in Colorado ;-). I think the team needs to focus on getting the pitching staff right as best it can. Manaea should be traded if at all possible, or asked if he will take an assignment in AAA. Otherwise DFA. This year's Peralta is last year's Holmes. Of the minor league pitchers, Wenninger makes the most sense for the simple reason that he knows more about how to pitch, which is important in salvaging your starts when things aren't perfect, and we need that with concerns about stressing the bullpen otherwise. If we go with having added Scott and Wenninger for now, we have a potentially solid 5 starters. For now Peterson and Tobias are relievers, both of whom have shown well generally in relief: Tobias especially in many roles. Warren has been a pleasant surprise; Brazabon better than expected.
Unfortunately we can't trade Baty now, but as soon as he is off the IL, we have to give Robert some time to build up some value and trade him to make room for Ewing.
We have to ride Semien's ability to hit with RISP.
Ewing can move Soto back to 2 hole. he also injects speed.
Has anyone noticed how much better Bichette has been hitting since
moving back to SS.
Honestly, our current biggest roadblocks to change are Manaea and Robert.
Gaps right now is the total absence of power on offense, and starting pitching both in quality and ability to get deep into games.
And I really don't like playing people out of position which almost always makes the team worse defensively at two positions: the osition those moves from and the position they move into; and in cases like Baty, impact their offense as well..
Wenninger must get the call up. Do not dawdle. When the road trip ends. One at a time. Tong in 3-4 weeks.
I could not find it this AM.
Robert will return any day, week, month, or year now. He has Giancarlo Stanton Disorder.
Mack, I don’t think Matsuzaka (is that his name?) is having any setbacks.
Avoid pitchers whose last name starts with M, except for McLean. The Nolan part of his name overrides the M Factor.
I had great joy. I missed the game and saw the final score.
Vientos will strike out less if he swings more at strike one, then he will be fine.
Our biggest roadblock to positive change is Stearns.
I’m encouraged seeing Torrens behind the plate more and Alvy at DH (though he’s a DP machine). Alvy is a terrible defensive catcher and I am certain that our staff pitches better to Torrens. Extending Torrens was a smart move, and I am starting to think that it’s time - while they still have some value - to move on from both he and Baty.
