Remember when the National League
East was so poor in talent? The baseball world laughed at us only a couple of
years ago. What happened? Well, there were so few free agent signings and
trades, but the biggest one of them was between two NL East teams. No, these
teams were built through both the domestic and international draft as well as
selling off old contracts for rising prospects. Now, guess what? The 5th
team in the division, the Marlins, is just around the block. We should be in
great shape around the time that the 2023 season starts, but until then, the
Mets must come to realize that this is how you, not only build a team, but
maintain it as well.

It could be that Carlos Beltran never gets to manage one game for the
Mets. It’s currently a longshot, but baseball may be able to tie him into the
sign fixing mess. He was there in 2017. Either way, I always have said since
the day I met him is there is something ‘off’ here. Mets management is already
saying that this scandal will not taint the decision to bring Carlos aboard.
But suspensions and handed down by the league, not the individual teams. Did
you see that Browns a-hole that hit the Steelers QB over the head with the QB’s
own helmet. Well that suspension will be a league one. There may be more to
come here.

‘John From Albany’ and I were talking
about Tim Tebow this week. I keep reminding him
that he didn’t hit a lick for either Binghamton or Syracuse while John keeps
reminding me that is a big draw at both those two stadiums, whether he in the
lineup or not. He walks down the sidelines, signing as many autographs for the
kiddies as he can before the game starts. Hey! I have an idea! Make him a
roving coach between these two teams. Sort of a bench coach. God forbid not a
hitting coach.

The Mets need to get on the horse and
start renewing contracts on the stars that will hit free agency soon. Marcus Stroman and Justin
Wilson go away in 2021. Noah Syndergaard,
Michael Conforto, and Steven Matz in
2022. And Edwin Diaz, Seth Lugo, and Brando Nimmo in 2023. These are the nucleus of the god
team you are building to become great. You have to take care of business at
home before you look outside your window.

In closing, Tom
Brennon informed me that he will only be occasionally posting between now
and next spring. He had a great one yesterday which I didn’t expect to see on
the site. I respect his decision and hope he enjoys the time away from his
tablet on the LIRR. We hope he revises that, but we understand the decision made here.
(but, what do I know…)

Any starting pitcher not hitting free agency and accepting a team's offer for a long term deal is costing himself a lot of money.
I agree Reese.
Quality pitchers must realize that they are few in numbers
Thanks, Mack. Going to try to resurrect my singing performances, but nonetheless, as the mood strikes, like it did yesterday, and I can bang out something quick like that, I will write articles like it for indisputably the greatest Mets blog site on Earth.
Tebow's Last Stand in 2020 - do or die.
Beltran essentially just hit Brodie with a helmet.
Mets better hope that Peterson, Megill, Humphreys, Smith and others can produce a useful starter or two to bridge the Mets to Allen and Wolf.
Let's not forget Szapucki
Definitely Szapucki - and Tommy Wilson, too - Harol G has to keep proving himself - not so good so far this winter
The question is - who can be better than 2019 Oswalt? Of course, that begs the question - can Oswalt himself in 2020 be better?
Hopefully, the above 3, plus Peterson, Megill, Humphreys, Smith, equal 7 pitchers - can even 2 of them start at the major league level?
A pet peeve of mine--and maybe it's nonsensical--is bringing a guy up and throwing him in before he puts his luggage down. They did that with Nogosek...twice (say day as arrival). Let them watch a game on the ML level (unless emergency of course).
Mack,
the only thing the Mets are good at is ignoring the trend from other teams. Wheeler should have been signed to an extension at the same time they signed deGrom to one. But, these are the Mets.
They will wait until everything clicks for Syndergaard before trying to extend him. Matz would be a cheap sign right now and still be a good trade bait if needed.
I am sure anything Tom puts forward will be a great read in the future.
Myles Garrett, I think.
I am all for letting the players play, if you will.....but, that was WAY over the line. He should have
been charged criminally, IMO.
I think the Browns are a bigger train wreck then any other team in professional sports.
Side note, I hope Tom enjoys his hiatus....his regular contributions will be missed. Rest up and
get ready for 2020!
We all will miss Tom
Thanks, guys. Kiefer Sutherland starred in Designated Survivor - next, he ought to star in a Reese Kaplan series called Designated Hitter.
KIEFER AS MANAGER: "GET A BASE HIT! NOW! WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME!"
While the idea of extending players before they can leave is tempting, caution is needed.
Where would we be now had we exrended Matt Harvey and Ike Davis? How did the 4-year extension we gave to Lag work out?
I think it will be difficult for Tebow to make the parent club due to too much competition.
