Despite a lack of the Mets' major hitters - no Cespedes, no Lowrie, lots of missed time for Nimmo, a chunk of missed time from Jeff McNeil, and a frequently injured, mostly sub-par Cano - the Mets' offense rocked.

1) 7th best in runs (799) - just 8 more runs and they would have been 4th best.
2) 1st in HRs (242) by 18 HRs over the 2nd best Mets team, and 50 more HRs than in 3 seasons - 1979, 1980 and 1981 - combined.
3) 13th best in doubles (280). If so many balls were not clearing fences, 2019 might have been # 1 in doubles.
4) Pete Alonso's 53 rookie HRs were 30% higher than the Mets' previous single season HR record. To put that in perspective, 30% higher than the Mets' 86 wins would have resulted in 112 wins.
5) 14th best team OBP (.328). Seven points higher would have had them at 7th best.
6) 2nd highest K's (1,384) - whiffs and HRs go hand in hand. The 1974 team fanned just 735 times, but hit just 96 HRs. Personally, I'll accept the 2019 version, hands down.
7) Slugging % of .442 was barely 2nd best all time (2006: .445). Much better than 1968's Mets' low of .315.
8) Launch angle led to many blasts and just 129 DPs, compared to 171 DPs in Darryl Strawberry's rookie year of 1983.
OK, 2019 was great - but - in 2020, we expect more!
Especially if Cespedes, Lowrie, and Nimmo don't miss lots of time, and if Cano and McNeil stay healthier.
A league-leading offense would be nice.

With this lineup, we can afford to go defensive in CF.
The flexibility of McNeil, Smith, and Davis to play multiple positions allows us this option
Very promising, but if Yo, Lowrie and Nimmo get more ABs than they did in '19 that will mean fewer for Squirrel, JD and maybe 4to, so I don't see a big increase.
I guess Pete will have to hit 60+ to make up the difference. 👍
Don't understand your logic. McNeil abs should not suffer even if the others get more. His versatility keeps him in the lineup.
Yes, it should. But if Yo, Nimmo and Lowrie play, then others don't. It's too soon to know what trades are ahead, but only 3 OFers and 1 3Bman can play on any given day. Lowrie can get the ABs that Frazier had last year, but who sits if Yo and Nimmo play?
Where to JD, Squirrel and Smith fit?
JD and Jeff got tremendous opportunity with those guys out...but the Mets had Lagares, Braxton, Altherr, Gomez and others hitting far less than Cespedes and Nimmo would have. They would have boosted that portion of the offense.
