If you were the GM or owner, old or new...

Would you do a salary dump trade o Jed Lowrie and Jeuryrs Familia to free up the 2020 to address other needs?

You might have to tack a solid bargain basement player to get someone even remotely interested in absorbing that 2020 and 2021 salary obligation. It could be Dom Smith or one of the younger catchers or shortstops.

Reese -

I agree.

No.

Familia sounds very confident and pumped. He may bomb again in 2020, but I think he is a man on a mission and more likely to have a big comeback season.

The pen is what killed this team in 2018 and 2019. If he sounds this psyched, he may help turn this into the best pen in baseball, which he thinks the Mets might be.

That happens, we win the division.

I agree with Tom .. I would dump Lowrie and keep Familia. I see both Familia and Diaz rebounding this year to give the Mets a very solid bullpen.

I'd love to see a deal with Cespedes and Lowrie to Texas for a couple prospects, altho I do have some hope that Cespedes will also rebound to some degree. I am just not comfortable that his feet will allow him to play passable outfield on a daily basis. Hope I am wrong on this.

Yes, and I'd tack on a Dom Smith or a couple of low- to mid-level prospects to do it. I just have my doubts that the Mets would then use the money to better the team with someone worthwhile, sign a few more "lightning in a bottle players" to one or two year deals, or the Wilpons just pocket the money.
