D1 Baseball –

Vanderbilt wunderkind Kumar Rocker, he of the 19-strikeout no-hitter in super regionals and the reigning CWS Most Outstanding Player, was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday for Vanderbilt. Rocker is said to have arm soreness, and fans are already nervous after Mississippi State lost its sophomore ace JT Ginn. Hopefully, this is just precautionary.

5       Texas Tech   6-1

Kendall Rodgers comment on Texas Tech after week 2:

I think the offense will be explosive as the season progresses, and I also think Tech will be fine defensively. Frankly, I point to the starting pitching as intriguing moving forward. Bryce Bonnin and Austin Becker are both really talented pitchers and can throw the heck out of the ball. But both also had flashes of brilliance and flashes of lacking pitchabilty at times. WTS, I am still a believe both will have solid seasons, especially Bonnin. I also think Dallas will be in the rotation sooner rather than later.

Spike Lee's simple resolution. Buy the Knicks for $3.6 billion. Then you can go into watch the MSG games thru any door.

My Two Cents

1. I have liked (so far) some of what I have seen from bottom feeder pitchers Shreve, Kilome, and Uceta. There is hope here.

2. "Rising Apple" thinks that small hitting Tomas Nido just needs competition from the other possible Met backup catchers. He's wrong. This no hitting escapade has gone on too long I think anyway for a sudden reversal to transpire. Tomas is a really good defensive catcher who should have been in the batting cage every day he was off this past winter. Mazeika or D. Rodriquez are the two.

3. The Steven Matz syndrome. Nothing new in MLB. We have seen Steven's glory, so has his grandfather, but the sad truth remains that without consistency it is really hard to stick in the bigs. It doesn't work starting and it does not work relieving either. Time may prove me wrong here (and I sincerely hope so) but the clock now saying it's David Peterson time. You can fake your mind out if you want (we all do at some point) but this is the truth now. Cut bait while you can, may be very sound advice.

4. Dominic Smith. He probably won't get as much starting time as last season, and I think that he really does deserve to start somewhere. I'd package him with Matz and let them both start fresh maybe somewhere else, like Boston. Dominic is a great interview and a solid player batting. He belongs on maybe Red Sox first base. You have to move players who are Dominic good, so their own career does not pass them by.

5. Chris Sale getting third doctor's opinion on his elbow. Let me put it to you this way Chris, "I have never seen Dr. james Andrews be wrong in his diagnosis. Ever. Go get'rdone now man, and get back sooner that way than flying all around the world trying to get some doctor (half as good as Dr. Andrews) to tell you that it can be fine again by resting it. The Red Sox will just need three more good starters rather than the two they already now need.

6. Use the blue and orange bill Mets caps this season. Home and away. They are luckier.

7. Have the prez throw out the first game Citi Field pitch, but from deep centerfield to homeplate. No hops allowed.

The NY Mets will not ever improve by playing players that they "want to succeed" but unfortunately "do not have the talent" to fulfill those wishes. Tejada was another one. Now its Matz and Nido. I like all three, but you "have got" to be honest with yourself when evaluating. Or with too many, the season can be very quickly over and early on.

Dreams are for night time.
