NY Post: The Mets, with their outfield options shrinking by the day, acquired Billy McKinney from the Brewers on Tuesday in exchange for minor league pitcher Pedro Quintana

Mets.com: 9 trade fits for Mets: Mancini, Buxton & more. Adam Frazier and Bryan Reynolds of the Pirates; Robbie Grossman of the Tigers; Ketel Marte of the Diamondbacks also suggested.

1964

In front of a meager crowd of 2,503 fans at Wrigley Field, the visiting Mets set a franchise record for runs scored when the team pummels the Cubs, 19-1. New York's 25 year-old first baseman Dick Smith, batting leadoff, becomes the first player in franchise history to collect five hits in a game, nearly 20% of season total of 21, when he collects a double, a triple, and three singles.

Baseball Reference:

2011 - New York Mets owner Fred Wilpon sells a minority stake in the team to investor David Einhorn for $200 million. Wilpon's financial troubles, stemming from losses incurred in the Bernard Madoff fraudulent investment scheme, and from a $1 billion lawsuit from other victims of Madoff's fraud, have been much talked about in recent weeks; the sale should give him some financial breathing room.

2012: Mets P Johan Santana shows his old form, shutting out the Padres on 4 hits and fewer than 100 pitches. Scott Hairston hits a three-run homer in the 1st, soon followed by 32-year-old Vinny Rottino's first big league homer to stake Santana an early 4 - 0 lead. The Mets put the game away with 5 runs off Dale Thayer in the 8th, topped by a grand slam by Mike Nickeas.

Back to normal: 1 run allowed 16 Ks, Jake no decision. Like kissing your sister.

Nido for President. Two terms.

Smith 2 hits, Villar two hits, now Lindor? How about 4 hits? That will head off the doom and gloom - and even perhaps get you back to .200.

I got into a discussion with a Lindor lover yesterday, who blamed it largely on his team collapsing around him. I countered with this: he has the 5th lowest average in major league baseball. And 2 of the 4 with lower averages had 24 RBIs. or nearly triple Lindor's total. Also reminded him that in-their-prime Willie, Mickey, and the Duke would not have crumbled as the team did but would have continued to rake.

Lindor had 2 seasons with 80+ extra base hits, and another that he would have had 80 except he missed about 20 games. Incredible achievement. Where the heck did that guy go?

Some SS age fast. Hanley Ramirez, Rey Ordonez, your often mentioned Zulio. It happens. Ernie Banks, Jeter, and A-Rod are the exceptions.

I don't think aging fast is at all in play here with Lindor.

BUT he is lost out there right now. Lost. And for the first time, he's looking confused, defeated; it is showing on him.

Guy is facing the trial of his life right now.

Hindsight is 20/20...actually I was using my remembrance of Mike Piazza...how they waited until the end of the year to make sure he could play in NY before signing him. Thought they should have done the same with Lindor when he started out cold in Spring Training. It would have been a gamble to wait out the season with Lindor, but it obviously would have been a smart move.

I read a great analysis of his batting back in Spring Training. Tons of stats, etc. And it basically showed that he's always had a weakness with off-speed stuff. But crushed fastballs.

That problem is really pronounced right now, because he's in-between and isn't hitting the fastballs at all. And, really, a pitcher would be crazy to give him one.

Coming into the season, I predicted that he's be bad in the first half and then be classic Lindor in the second half. I never imagined that he'd possibly be THIS BAD. But I still have hope that the second half will be closer to the real Lindor, who I think is a very good baseball player.

With these high-paid guys, at a certain point you have to forget the money. Can he be a very good SS for the NY Mets? I think so, yes. The best SS in MLB? Second best? Top ten?

I don't mind that he's being booed right now. He's been godawful and is shrinking before our eyes. A leader? I'm not seeing it.

Hoping the Mets can get to July 1st and still be in range, getting healthy, where they can make a move and get after it in the second half. Right now, this group, it's a small miracle every time they win a game.

We all agree they should have waited till he had a season in before signing him. With all the money in the world working for us what was the rush and if this really blows up who does Stevie hold accountable? Also how many teams are lining up to throw $341 million at ANY player and there are many options after this season. I hate when we seem to be bidding agains't ourselves and that is the case with both Lindor and McCann.

The pitching has been amazing which has kept them in the race. However, the bullpen has pitched - a lot. AT some point some of those arms are going to crash and burn if starters can
t give them length.

Loved the line from the NY Post...with regular playing time Nido has started to hit. Some guy from Upstate NY has been saying he'd hit with regular playing time for over a year.

You wonder if the Mets will think about moving McCann at some point for outfield help. They'd have to eat a chunk of his salary or convince a team that the slow start is an exception. The longer McCann slumps and the longer they wait the tougher it will be to do this.

The Mets win a game.

Jake. Nido. Nine hits. Solid bullpen. Lots of K's.

Team victory.

What about Steven Matz on the TJays? 6-2 record, 9 k's against the Yankees. So what's the difference with Steven now versus him as a NYM?

Hard to pinpoint, would have to ask him for an assessment. But it has been so far night and day.

Maybe confidence. Maybe being away from home and with a new team. Maybe being one of the best friends of maybe the greatest Mets pitcher, and then able to be the number one starter with that new team. Or maybe it is simply because of a new pitching coach with a new pitching philosophy.

In any event Steven Matz does look more relaxed than ever pitching.

Can you guys imagine having Steven Matz (like he's been so far in 2021) along with Zach Wheeler right now? Interesting.

Can we trade Lindor for Shohei Ohtani? I understand Stevie would have to eat $350 million and throw in Alvarez to make it happen, but what the heck, right?

On Lindor

Kind of an unusual struggle for this guy if you look at his batting history.

There are things with this that I just simply do not get.

I have never seen any manager in any league ever leave a struggling batter in the one or two batting slot while in a significant slump. Never. Not ever. Not once.

Maybe the 1962 NYM?

Because that team had very few batters who could consistently get base hits. And that would be the only exception that I can come up with right now really.

Which brings to mind Amed Rosario.

He is apparently out of his batting/readjustment funk with his new Cleveland team. He is batting .245 right now and batting in the two slot of the their order. Cleveland is 26-20 won/lost and the sun is out for Amed now.

But remember whenever Amed went into a NYM batting slump he would get moved down in the order to the eight slot, and it worked every single time for him. Why? Because he is a good hitter overall too, and good hitters can go into batting slumps like anone else can.

Francisco needs a reboot and go through his own "readjustment period" here with the Mets. The eight slot maybe could take the heat off enough for him to achieve this.

Not into analytics really. I have not seen it work for long is why.

Noah suffers a slight setback.

Right arm fell off in his second inning of throwing while pitching in an MiLB game. Noah kicked it four times to the dugout. Trainer reattached with Scotch Tape. Mets saying not a big deal. Should be fine.

I was glad to see Edwin Diaz do so well in yesterdays game. I was at the game is the reason why.

Cosmo Kramer was the only Met reliever up in the bullpen when Edwin came into the game. Cosmo looked pretty good, was finding the strike zone for a change warming up, but I like Edwin better and wanted him to get the job done which he did do.

Maybe it's Francisco's eyes?

Could be. Our eyes are always changing our entire life. Remember Marty Feldman?

It's a thought. Why not check to make sure. Could be that simple of a thing.

Or maybe it is the bleach he is using in his hair lately, it runs down and into his eyes. Maybe he should get a "Denzel Haircut" and go with that.

I'm fishing for thoughts here if you guys have some on this topic.

Yes. I do have an idea.

Maybe someone should smack him around a little bit before each at bat. Seems to have worked.
