Open Thread - Is The Mets' Pen Getting Openly Threadbare?

So.....

Mets trade Miguel Castro for Joely Rodriguez to add lefty balance.

So...now Familia, Castro, and Loup are all adios.

Familia in 5 spring innings for Phils in 2022 has allowed one run and fanned 9.

Last year, that trio was 18-8 for a losing team, combined ERA under 3.00, 200 outings, more than a K per inning.

Is the new Mets pen deep enough in 2022? This Open Thread wonders if the pen is too threadbare.

They screwed up letting Loup get away...now just doubled
the screw up for a lesser talent.

This is a good move for Mets.

J-Rod is a killer against lefties who hit around the Mendoza line against him.

He is purely a LOOGY and gets killed by RH hitters
what good is that in today's baseball?
and has a career WHIP of 1.55 which is awful.

I was disappointed that Loup got away - but at the same time I knew that last year was a career year for him. He was not going to repeat that level of success in 2022.
Familia has always been an enigma - he has awesome stuff, but has days when he cannot control it enough to get the ball in the strike zone. So don't be surprised if he has some dominant games with the Phils. Just hope they're against the Braves, not the Mets.
Castro I liked - sad to see him go. We needed lefty help in the pen, and now we have 3. Shreve looked good today.

Rodriguez had a very good run with the Yankees after they obtained him from the Rangers. I'll go out on a limb and say he will be the 2022 version of the 2021 Aaron Loup.

I just hope the Mets have enough horses who can throw outings in the Mets' pen. Jake going down means more stress on the bullpen. Last year, when Jake pitched, the pen was awesome. When he was out, it got worn down. Miguel likely could throw 30 more outings than Joely.

A great article for someone to write is go person by person in the pen and decide, is it deep enough? Is it as good as last year's pen, or worse?

Cano is 41 for 107 in 3 spring trainings for the Mets. He is the King of Spring, the Toreador of Florida.

Let's hope he can rake in Queens. If he can...who needs Jake, anyway? We have King Cano.
