next 3 at home I believe. Mets sweep at home, win series 4 games to 1

1. Sevarino vs Beuhler is a great matchup for us in game 3. It’s obviously vital that we take advantage.
2. Nimmo’s foot problem is worrisome.
2a. That might be the opening for McNeil to start, and if his wrist isn’t a problem (it’s nearly impossible to hit with a bad wrist) I feel like the squirrel could end up a key contributor in this series.
3. Regardless of Nimmo, Iglesias looks close to cooked. It’s been a LOT for him this season and down the stretch at 34. Add in being an international pop star, and seeing him play, I’m pretty sure he’s running on fumes.
4. Pete taking walks and hitting balls the other way is so incredibly hopeful. Waiting that extra beat, of course is why he’s flailing at far fewer low and away breaking balls. No idea why it’s taken him so long other than over-trying to hit 100 HR in his FA year. I see more contributions coming from him this series.
5. Vientos is a beast and hits lasers and it’s exciting to know that he’ll be hitting them for us for years to come. A couple more big hits this week and he might find himself MVP of the NLCS. He is not, however, even an average MLB 3B, and seems more nervous and even less sure-handed in the playoffs. His defensive future in the org may be an interesting plot line this offseason.
6. Francisco Alvarez needs A LOT of coaching (mentorship?) on both sides of the ball. And it had better start in earnest this offseason.
7. Impressed and proud at how this team rebounded from the stinker of game 1. A less battle tested and/or resilient squad might have lost the series right there.
8. Our bullpen is holding together with duct tape, and it’s tough for any starter to get through 7 innings against this Dodger lineup. I wasn’t on blood pressure meds heading into this series, but it feels like I may be soon.
8. I think we’ll win tomorrow and take 2 of 3 in NY, including one game blown or at least blown up by the bullpen, costing us a sweep, and that we win it in LA. I want to say in 6, but when has this team ever made anything easy on itself?
10. Win or lose, given what we’ve seen from some of our core, and the state and the leadership of the franchise going forward, this has been a season to celebrate.

PS: MLB so very much wants Ohtani in the WS against Judge and Soto. The ratings and global viewership would be triple that of a subway series. This isn’t the NBA, and replay is a limiting factor,, but given Manfred’s clear preference for revenues over integrity, we should be keeping a close eye on ball/strike/check swing calls. Just saying.

Let’s Go Mets!

Sticking with Mets in 6, Vientos MVP

Mack, I am Mets prevailing in 6, and McNeil as MVP. If they wise up and play him of course. Adam, I will read yours later. Squeezed for time right now.

Adam, if baseball wants Ohtani to win, screw them. Mets hopefully will hold him hitless the rest of the way. Alvarez needs to figure out how to succeed consistently. The days off will immensely help the bullpen. But it is thinny thin, as Tom Carvel would say.

Vientos? I have something interesting planned re: him in my Thursday article.
