Tom Brennan: Wrestling With a Gorilla Can Have a Happy Outcome

LA? NOT TODAY! METS PIN THE BLUE GORILLA.

After a 9-0 thrashing on Sunday, sort of like getting clocked in the first round by Mike Tyson, the Mets jumped out quick-quick-quickly on Monday, with a lead off HR by he real MVP, Francisco Lindor, and a 2nd inning grand salami to the opposite field by Monsignor Mark Vientos.

But, they were facing the mighty Dah Jahs.  No time to relax.

A 3 run LA rally made it 6-3.  If you want details of those 3 runs, go to a Dodgers fan site.

The Questers from Queens dodged a few sticky situations in the 7th and 8th. The 8th inning one was frustratingly unnecessary, as Stanek had 2 outs and an 0-2 count, but got wild, requiring Edwin to come in to stamp out the brushfire, and Edwin got them out of the 8th.

The Mets added a very comforting 7th run in the 9th. Mar-te, Mar-te!

Bottom 9, Edwin gave up a hit and walk to start the 9th.  Gulp!

But, he trifecta-fanned Betts, Teoscar and Freddie Friggin’ Freeman to enter this game into the ledger. A 7-3 win.

Manaea gets the Big W.

1-1, game 3 on Wednesday.

Bring your kiddies, bring your wife, guaranteed to have the time of your life.

Tom,
Excellent game. Lindor and Vientos continue to drive in the runs while Manaea pitched extremely well. Overall a well needed team win. Back to New York for hopefully a final four wins.

As I picked Mets in six, it’s important to note that Game 6 will be another bullpen game for the Dodgers. Hopefully, by then the Mets will have trashed their bullpen and there isn’t much left of one.

Severino will go Wednesday, and available are just about everyone not named Peterson. That includes a very well rested Tylor Megill. Hoping that Severino does well, you can piggy back Megill to Quintana in Game 4, should you need to.

I think Luis Torrens should be playing. I also believe that Candelita had a nice run, but it’s time for McNeil to start on Wednesday. Also, why not switch Winker and Nimmo and let Nimmo DH while Winker stand in the grass?

How about Pete Alonso pulling a Daniel Murphy and taking an extra base while the Dodgers are taking a quick nap? Like Murphy, Alonso scored on a play he would not have had he stayed his previous base.

As for Vientos, no more talk about putting him at first base. Instead talk more about how much defensive work he will do this winter.

Gus, all good points. It was funny hearing the announcers facetiously talk about Pete and his running game, that Boras wanted him to expand his resume

Edwin dominating the heart of the Dodgers order was a great sign.

With Nimmo's bad leg a switch to DH would be a good move.

Six sounds great to me.

D J, it is plantar fasciitis if I spelled that right, darned painful and I think he should DH too. We need him to not be missing games over the next 7 wins.

Whew! That was a nervous finish. Too many LADs on base in the last few innings. We needed an extra insurance run - disappointed that we had a single then a long fly ball and Marte still did not score.
