Tom Brennan: Ex-Met Billy Wagner Makes the Hall of Fame!

"FIRE THE LASER!"

WHOO HOO!

Billy Wagner just elected to the Hall of Fame.

VERY HAPPY ABOUT THAT.  SO IS BILLY, DESERVEDLY SO.

Billy Wagner was an incredible reliever.  After a superb stretch with the Astros, the lefty flame thrower and hopefully future Hall of Famer was 5-5 2.37 with 101 saves for the Mets with 230 Ks in 189 IP.  In his entire career, he was 47-40, 2.31, with 422 saves, 1,196 Ks in 903 innings, a 0.998 career WHIP, and just 601 hits allowed.  The only thing he didn't accomplish was pitching longer than he did.

I’d take about six of him, thanks for asking.

My most vivid memory of Billy, though, was as an Astro.  In a very tight game, he threw pure high cheese, at 100-101.  Mike Piazza torched it to right center for a HR.  A great beat another great that day on a great pitch that collided with a great bat.

He makes the Hall this year with Ichiro and Sabathia, both well deserving.  Beltran?  Not yet.

Favorite Billy memories, anyone?
