SAVAGE VIEWS – EIGHT HUNDRED PLUS

 

My column today was going to be a comparison between the Mets vs the Braves and Phillies rosters heading into 2025. Paul beat me to the punch and did a marvelous job. So, I’m forced to switch gears.

The good news is that the Mets have not signed Iglesias, although I heard rumors that he was offered a contract. Why would we offer a contract to a 35-year-old player when you have the 22-year-old Acuna in the wings? 

LuisAngel may not have a recording contract but he offers a lot more versatility than Iglesias. Not only can he play the infield but the outfield as well. The team needs to get younger by bringing in at least 2-3 prospects each year.

In any event I decided to make a wild guess on what to expect this year from our amazing 13 players. I should mention that I expect Marte to be traded, with Baty taking his spot. However, the potential is there. Let’s see how the season unfolds.

It needs to be mentioned that the Braves and Phillies will be fielding equally impressive lineups. On paper, both the Braves and the Phillies seem to boast stronger pitching staffs. Probably comes down to which teams can better survive the inevitable injuries.
