Campbell, a .181 hitter batting for Niese, poked a soft line drive into shallow left field over the outstretched glove of shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria. Lagares, batting in the 9 hole, tripled to make it 4-1 and scored on Curtis Granderson's double.

NY Post: “The Mets (57-50) won their second straight road game in the same series for the first time since May 10, when they beat the Phillies. This victory allowed the Mets to remain one game ahead of Washington in the NL East…Niese (W,6-9) gave the Mets a second straight superb performance, allowing one run on four hits over seven innings. The lefty surrendered only one hit after the fourth inning and retired eight of the last nine batters he faced.”

The Nationals beat the D-Backs 5-4 to keep pace with the Mets and stay 1 game back.
