Five games into the spring training schedule, the Mets have already had some great performances (think Carson Benge going 3-3 against the Cardinals) and some dreadful performances (13 walks in one game?).
None of these is quite ready for passing judgement yet, as baseball is a game that is best evaluated over large sample sets. But it is fun to get the discussion going, as many are already projecting who will make the April roster.

Benge and Lambert
Tauchman 3 run shot. Ewing looking competent. Nimmo? Hasn’t played for Texas yet.
Benge and Wenninger primarily. I am much more concerned about those who I had worries about from the outset. I have expressed doubts about two who I am deeply concerned about because their biomechanics are problematic. Alvarez and Tong. I can't tell you how much I wish I am wrong; and it is definitely possible that I am, as in my sport of expertise -- golf, there are all sorts of swings that work. But we are talking, in my terms, anyway, about competitive advantage turning into exploitative strategic advantages. And with Alvarez, I don't care what the coaches get him to do about address or where his hands are, or anything like that. His mechanics create outs and lots of misses. I'd bet on that frankly. And with Tong, how many pitchers have lasted primarily based on deception -- especially starting pitchers. I haven't played competitive baseball -- and it wasn't all that competitive to begin with -- for 60 years and I can already define an approach at the plate for hitters -- especially professional hitters, that will eliminate whatever competitive advantage his delivery deception creates. If I can spot it, everyone who knows a hell of a lot more than me, can as well. I hope I am wrong about both of them.
McLEAN WAS AWESOME TODAY
I second that Tom! I cant wait to see Mclean’s sophomore season. Love seeing Tong worrying only about process and working on that cutter. I think he’ll be up with the big club and for good by mid season. Once that cutter is reliable he’s going to be officially MLB ready (still with room to grow and add to his arsenal but deff MLB ready).
Lambert looks nasty. Pitching in general just looks so deep with so many bright spots.
Benge, ewing stand out for me on the other side of the ball.
