MACK - Enough

 When Enough Is Enough

I only write on Friday, per the boss around here (Mrs. Mack).

That being said, I'm sitting in my lounger after that Sunday grand slam and just got done listening to Mendoza do the bossa nova of the mouth again, making excuses for players that simply are less talented than the players they face off against each game.

Steve. David.

Please stop making this guy grovel for what you put in uniforms. You know this team isn't going anywhere this season. Now is the time to alert the other General Managers that the For Sale sign is out.

It's not embarrassing to admit this early.

The embarrassing thing is to sit on your hands any longer.

Especially when I read today that the Mets have had the easiest schedule in baseball so far this season, but going forward, they have the 4th toughest.

How do you win with a harsh remaining schedule headwind, when for the first third of the season, you couldn’t win with a brisk tailwind?

Apparently, I read last night that the two Francisco’s may both be on an optimistic return timetable. My guess is at least two weeks away, perhaps more.

Watching the Mets this year is like scraping you teeth on concrete.

Nonetheless, the landscape is bleak. The momentum is nil. I could make a case that the team could improve. But not nearly enough to make the playoffs. The Mets pitchers did fan 15 yesterday, FWIW.

Toothless offense. I have even stopped watching the 60 minute rewinds. Nothing worse than repeatedly being let down. This team, in that regard, has been a league leader.

There is no end to the shock. It is bad enough that the team has failed so badly so far. It is even worse that it happened against a light schedule. Soon the injured players will return, but they were not performing before they were hurt, so there is no assurance that it gets better from here.

Objectively, the team is so lethargic it is truly unwatchable. No pressure on the opposing pitching or defense. If someone does get on base, they stand & wait while the next guy strikes out or hits a ground ball / DP. Even our young speedsters are getting thrown out attempting to steal - how do multiple 70 SB guys get thrown out so fast - where is the coaching?!

There is virtually zero tactical in-game maneuvering & we are watching a team that is completely stuck in the mud.

No veteran leadership at all. It’s almost sinful to see them depend on rookies for a spark - they rookies can’t provide that every game.

The veterans should be ashamed of themselves. They are literally stealing money.

Also, enough of the vientos/Baty duo. They simply do not have what it takes to play well in this very demanding league.

The team is a bad joke at this point & the front office is lost - they have checkmated themselves at this point.

Next month’s schedule is BRUTAL. They will be pure burnt toast before the second week of June.

Does not matter who comes back.

Ernest's recent Podcast nailed - its not just the MLB Mets, the entire organization is not doing well. The fact that Binghamton and Brooklyn are both in last place with pretty much the same team that won Championships last season is shocking.

I see no positive energy. Players seem to be just going through the motions

RVH said...

Mack, you are being generous with that statement. IMO, the players are not even going thru the motions. They are comatose.

Sadly, I don't see player movement at this point in the season

L've been waiting and waiting for Vientos to come around. He hits the ball so hard but he swings at absolutely everything. Struck out on a pitch that hit him! Hate to say it but I've seen enough of him at the plate

The are pathetic, lack pride, & take zero personal accountability.

They literally suck

Jon G, I may have to take some blame on Vientos. Last two seasons, I noted that he swung at only 32% of First pitches, but ended up with 52% of his bats ending on some sort of two strike count, where he hit just .130 last year and those 52 percent of his plate appearances.

I just looked, and he’s up to 38.5% of his first pitches this season.

Results are that he only put the ball in play on 30% of those first swings, and he is stunningly just 8 for 76 (.105) on at bats ending in two strikes. Almost impossible to be THAT bad.

But whereas his at bats ended on 52% of at bats where he reached 2 strikes in 2025, that is thankfully down to 43.5% this season. Because he is absolutely overmatched on 2 strike counts.

He clearly has gotten more aggressive. If I were him, to disagree with you, I’d be even more aggressive.

Baro and Snyder will be back soon to bring some aid to High A and AA. Of course, that won’t be enough. But it should help.

Jon G, over his entire career, Vientos has gotten to two strikes 741 time (682 at bats). Results are awful:

.141/.204/.238, 14 HRs, 55 RBIs, 53 walks, THREE HUNDRED SIXTY NINE Ks.

Pitchers LOVE when they get Vientos to 2 strikes.

Im ready for the fire sale especially since one could argue that the Mets could field a more competitive team in August going all Youth than what they broke camp with

Ernest,
Who are you seeing in A and Rookie ball that you are pleased with?
