Draft 13 – Garrett Williams, Aaron Judge, Josh Hart, Jonathan Gray, Kohl Stewart

Garrett Williams, LHP, Cavalry Baptist HS - In 2007, Williams led his Lubbock team to the consolation game of the Little League World Series where he hit his pitch limit with one out to go in the game. Up to that point, he had tossed 5.2 no-hit innings, striking out 14 batters. Flash forward six years and the 6’-3” southpaw is still dominating opposing hitters. In his last start, he struck out 15 over seven shutout innings and now has 89 K/26 BB over 41.2 innings, allowing just 13 hits. A great athlete and hitter, he features a low-90s fastball with late life and a plus curveball. A polished pitcher who also starred for U18 Team USA baseball, he would be a great selection if he was still available at pick 41. Committed to Oklahoma State. link

Is Aaron Judge still there for Detroit at #21? If so, is he a worthy choice at that point? - Jim Callis: Judge might be. It’s a tough call. If you dream on him, he could be a lot better than the No. 21 pick. But the game power is inconsistent (better this year) and he strikes out a lot. So there’s a good deal of risk too. I think it could go either way–I wouldn’t take him before No. 21 (and wouldn’t argue vociferously if he went No. 21), but someone might dream on him and pop him in the teens. link

Josh Hart, OF, Parkview HS (GA) - The 6’-1” left-hander has been hitting everything in sight lately. Over his last seven games, he has gone 14-for-23 (.609) with five extra-base hits, 11 RBI and has drawn five walks for a .700 OBP/1.087 SLG. On the season, he is now hitting .453 over 28 games with 13 extra-base hits, 23 RBI, 19 stolen bases and has drawn 11 walks for a .547 OBP/.733 SLG. The toolsy outfielder has been a four-year starter for one of the top programs in the country. link

Jonathan Gray might be the only other prospect who has matched Appel, at least in terms of week-by-week performance. He had a no-decision against West Virginia on Friday, so his record stayed put at 8-1. His ERA is 1.20. In 89 2/3 innings, the right-hander has 104 strikeouts against just 16 walks, holding hitters to a .166 batting average. - link

Draft 13 – Aaron Judge, Corey Simpson, Clint Frazier, Collin Moran

Aaron Judge, OF, Fresno State - Over his last 17 games, the 6’-7” right-hander has gone 28-for-66 (.424) with seven doubles, a triple, four home runs and has stolen five bases. He has also drawn 10 walks for a .500 OBP/.742 SLG. He is now hitting .347/.434/.597 over 37 games. His long swing leads to a lot of strikeouts but the power potential is scary with his size.  link

The Player: Clint Frazier (OF, Loganville High School) – Hit .424 with 24 home runs, 55 runs scored, 58 RBI, 14 steals and 31 walks as a junior in 2012. Broke Brandon Moss’ single season school record for RBI and home runs and also set the school mark for runs scored. Already owns the career home run mark at Loganville and has almost doubled Moss’ previous school best. As of April 8th, Frazier was hitting .561 with 11 home runs so far this season. - link

Collin Moran - Contact/Approach - You won't see too many "grip and rip" hitters at North Carolina, and Moran is no exception. He has plus pitch recognition and a line drive swing that should allow him to hit for a high average as a professional. Power - Moran's power was a major question mark coming into the year, but he's turned it on this season. If he had to move to first, his power production would probably be below-average, but at the hot corner he should get enough extra-base hits. link

2013 Draft-Notes - Gandy Stubblefield, Dominic Smith, Aaron Judge, Dalton Dulin,Justis Boever

RHP Gandy Stubblefield, Texas A&M -- Stubblefield has a big-time arm, but struggled with his command in the spring for the Aggies. This summer, he was very consistent and put up some solid numbers. He made eight appearances and had a 3.46 ERA in 39 innings. He also struck out 53 and walked 16, while teams hit him at a .213 clip. PG  

Dominic Smith LHP/1B Serra HS, California- Big bodied power bat who drew a Ryan Howard comp from a scout friend of mine. Very relaxed at the plate with the ability to recognize his pitch and crush it. Upside also as a LHP with low to potentially mid 90′s heat. Pinetar 

Aaron Judge IF  Lakewood (Calif.) High  Ht.: 6-2. Wt.: 180. B/T: L/R.  Crawford is a talented young player who makes the game look easy. The starting shortstop at Lakewood since his freshman year, he is a quick-twitch athlete with smooth actions. At the plate he is a gap-to-gap hitter with a fluid swing from the left side. He has excellent range and plenty of arm strength. He is verbally committed to Southern California

Dalton Dulin  IF  Memphis  Ht.: 5-9. Wt.: 165. B/T: B/R.  Dulin is a high-energy player that constantly puts pressure on the other team with his speed. His short, quick swing sprays line drives to all fields and his speed on the bases impacts the game every time out. In addition, his instincts are among the best in the country. He is verbally committed to Mississippi.

Justis Boever is a wiry 6-foot-4, 180-pound right handed pitcher who comes from a high ¾ arm slot with a long, loose arm and good rhythm on the mound. Boever’s fastball sat an easy 84-86 mph with late cut and was consistently thrown for a strike. He also showcased a sharp, late breaking 11-to-5 breaking ball  (67-73) with fastball arm speed and a 68-71 mph change up down in the zone with arm side movement. Boever has plenty of room to fill out his frame, and as he continues to mature physically should see a spike in velocity. PBR
