Robert Tyler, RHP, Crisp County HS (GA) - The 6’-4” right-hander is another loose arm that can dial his fastball up to 93 mph with room for more as he matures and improves his delivery. He adds a hard curveball with nice depth and a developing change-up with a nice feel. He has 44 K/12 BB over 38.1 innings this season. He is viewed as a late-second/early-third-round kid but could go a lot higher with his size and potential. Committed to Georgia. LINK

Clinton Hollon, RHP, Woodford County HS (KY) - The 6’-1” right-hander tossed a two-hit shutout on Thursday, striking out 12 to no walks. He now has a 1.13 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 57 K/10 BB over 40 innings, allowing just 18 hits as he continues to overpower his peers this season. Scouts have said he has become more of a pitcher this year, using his secondary offerings more, instead of relying just on his low/mid-90s heater. Both his curveball and change-up are already considered above-average pitches and he has great control of all three. Committed to Kentucky. LINK

Phil Bickford, RHP, Oaks Christian HS (CA) - After tossing a no-hitter on April 10, striking out 11 to two walks over seven innings, the 6’-4” right-hander was lights-out again on April 20. Over seven shutout innings, he allowed two hits and struck out 13 to one walk in front of about 20 scouts. Over his last six starts, he has a .046 ERA, 0.49 WHIP and 63 K/3 BB over 39 innings. He features a low/mid-90s fastball, and both his curveball and change-up are solid offerings. His size, stuff and ability to command his pitches could land him in the first round of the 2013 MLB draft. Committed to Cal State Fullerton. link

Jesse Roth, RHP, Horace Mann HS (NJ) - Playing in the northeast can be frustrating as you are always at the mercy of weather. This year has been especially rough for pitchers like Roth, a 6’-3”, 200-pound right-hander with a power arm. He has only been able to log 18 innings so far this season but has made the most of them by striking out 30 while allowing just three hits. His fastball has been touching 92-93 mph and his size suggests more is still in the tank. A very smart pitcher who is committed to Virginia. link

Hunter Renfroe, OF, Mississippi State - Kris Bryant and Colin Moran have dominated talks about who has the best college bat this season. Renfroe, a 6’-1”, 215-pound right-hander has welcomed himself to the part this year with a powerful bat, and may be the most athletic of the three. Over 37 games, he is hitting .407 with 12 doubles, 13 home runs, 42 RBI and has stolen eight bases. He has drawn 21 walks to just 21 strikeouts for a .485 OBP/.815 SLG. His strong arm and above-average speed will play well in a corner outfield spot.  link

Robert Tyler is a big boy RHP from Georgia who has been recorded as tall as 6’5 and as short as 6’3 so either one you believe same idea, he’s a big kid. He’s probably best known for the fact that his delivery is a bit funky to the eye. It’s a rather long motion behind the back with his arm and that leads some to believe that there will be issues repeating the mechanics and everything that comes with that. He’s a athletic kid and he has room to fill out still so we’ll have to see how well he holds up. At this stage of the game with him specifically I don’t know if your changing his mechanics at this point without making it a complete mess. All that being said though I wouldn’t be writing about him if I didn’t feel he has a real shot at being an impact arm at the next level and I wholeheartedly believe he’s more than capable of doing so. link

2013 Draft-Notes - Brady Aiken, Robert Tyler, Dylan Munger, Ryne Stanek, Brian Bohman

Brady Aiken LHP  Cathedral Catholic HS, San Diego  Ht.: 6-3. Wt.: 210. B/T: L/L. - Aiken is a physical young lefty with a clean arm. His delivery and arm action are above-average and lead to his ability to command three pitches. His fastball sits comfortably in the 88-90 mph range, and he spins a tight curveball. A deceptive changeup rounds out his three-pitch arsenal. Crisp County pitcher Robert Tyler dreams of playing in the big leagues. He is getting a taste of big league baseball this summer.Robert Tyler will pitch at Wrigley Field this Saturday in the Under Armour All-American game. This after Tyler pitched an inning in the Perfect Game All-American game last weekend in San Diego's Petco Park. LHP Dylan Munger, Alabama-Birmingham -- Munger had a less than stellar spring for the Blazers, tallying a 5.98 ERA. However, he blossomed this summer with a 1.91 ERA in nine appearances and 37 2/3 innings of work. 2-Ryne Stanek RHP Arkansas- I watched Stanek in HS and wrote about him here. Ryne has pushed himself way up the draft lists and enters the 2013 season as the 2nd best righty in the college game behind the return of Mark Appel of Stanford. Stanek has improved in several areas of his game since turning down the Mariners who took him in the 3rd round. He finished his 2012 campaign going 8-4 with a 2.82 e.r.a and 83 K in 93 IP. He has the potential to sit in the mid 9′s with a potentially plus curve. His achilles is the ability to work long into games as he seems to unravel in the mid to late innings. The Prep Baseball Report Western PA Top Prospect Showcase on August 15 included five catchers who showcased their abilities for college coaches at Pullman Park in Butler, PA. The top two catchers in the group were Brian Bohman (McDowell), ranked No. 54 in the Class of 2013, and Jake Kleindl (Shady Side Academy), ranked No. 38 in the Class of 2014. Bohman is a 5-foot-8, 170-pounder with an athletic frame and excellent receiving and blocking skills. Bohman had the top pop time of the day at 2.05, a number that will be improved significantly with some minor adjustments to his ball transfer.
