2013 Draft-Notes - Kohl Stewart, Dominic Miroglio, Sean Hagen, Stuff

Kohl Stewart, who is committed to Texas A&M as a football quarterback and a pitcher, sat at 88-92 and bumped 93. He showed a very hard true slider with tilt in the 84-86 range, but he said he had better feel Sunday for his 80-82 mph changeup, which he used to get lefthanded hitters out in front. It was the second-to-last outing of the year for Stewart, who headed back to Houston for football two-a-days the rest of this week, then will return to make a final baseball appearance of the summer at the Perfect Game All-American Classic in San Diego in a week. Then he'll focus all his energy on football BA

The first game of the 2012 Area Code Games couldn’t have gone much better for catcher Dominic Miroglio at the plate and behind the dish. The Bishop O’Dowd (Oakland, Calif.) rising senior paced his Oakland A’s team to a 6-1 win over the Kansas City Royals as he lined a double which cleared the bases in the fourth inning. On defense, the 6-foot, 180-pounder nailed a runner straying off second to close the fourth inning. http://espn.go.com/blog/high-school/baseball/post/_/id/2194/schutt-impact-player-of-the-day-august-5

Sean Hagan – Falmouth Commodores – LHP -  Southpaw Commodore Sean Hagan (St. Johns) helped Falmouth to maintain their prime spot as second place in the Western Division with an incredible outing that earned him Coca Cola’s Pitcher of the Week.  Hagan shined in last Sunday’s game versus Brewster, where he threw a shutout to carry the Commodores to a 6-0 victory. He only allowed one hit and struck out nine batters during the nine innings he tossed. He is currently 4-0 and holds a sparkling 3.52 ERA. CCB

Aaron Fitt -    LSU recruit LHP Tyler Allen 87-89, good feel for big, looping 73-74 curve… LHP Ian Clarkin, USD recruit, 88-91… LHP Brandon Gilson 87-89 with 78-80 slurve… Casey Meisner 90-91, 75-76 curve

Kendall Rogers - LaSalle LHP Shawn O'Neill had an outstanding summer up at the Valley League. Struck out 69 in 64 1/3, with 1.40 ERA… LBSU suffers a bad blow, as weekend starter, RHP Matt Anderson, decided to sign a Free Agency deal with #Mariners over wknd.

David Rawnsley‏ -  1B Nick Longhi, after crushing 1B at 106 mph exit speed, lofts F8 in air for 6.77 sec. Serious hang time = Serious bat speed… RHP Braden Shipley up to 97 at the Alaska League this summer… LHP Trey Ball mostly 91 mph, T92 w/good CB… RHP Logan Shore 89-92 with big sharp SL.

Prep Baseball Report‏ -  Colby Fitch (Hickman HS, MO) earns MVP of Midwest Future Games after hitting 3 HRs in 3 games. The LHH also drove in 6 runs vs. top pitchers… IL: Ted Snidanko, an OF from Lockport HS, commits to Purdue.

Draft 2012: - Sean Hagen, C.J. Saylor, Walker Weickel, Lance McCullers, Blake Hickman

Sean Hagen:

7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments  - Sean Hagan, St John’s, 6’6 220, a biggin’ with plus arm strength, fb up to 93, most are 90-91 with some late arm side run, hard cb lacks command from 3/4 slot, crosses and fights himself some in delivery. FB movement is his plus with that velocity and could be early rounder or 8-12 rounder. Needs good fall & spring.

C.J. Saylor:

8-12-11: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=290  - C C.J. Saylor (5'10" 180, R/R, West Covina, CA) is an excellent receiver, blocks balls in the dirt extremely well, and looks to have a chance to hit for some average, with a compact, strong stroke. He isn't sexy or that big strong monster behind the plate with the wow arm and big raw power but his skills and talents at his position, they play very well.

Walker Weickel:

8-12-11: - http://www.perfectgame.org/AllAmerican/News.aspx?num=6123  – Right-hander Walker Weickel tossed the second inning for the East, throwing what was described by David Rawnsley as a "typical easy Weickel inning." He was 89-91 with a big, slow 71 curve.

Lance McCullers:

8-14-11: - http://www.perfectgame.org/AllAmerican/News.aspx?num=6123  - Lance McCullers, a flame-throwing right-handed pitcher, consistent offensive threat from the left side of the plate and a slick fielding, strong-armed infielder, has been named the recipient of the 2011 Jackie Robinson Award as the nation’s top high school prospect in the class of 2012. McCullers, who will enter his senior year at Jesuit High School in Tampa, Fla., this fall, received the award Saturday night at the Perfect Game All-American Classic presented by Rawlings Awards Banquet held at the San Diego Hall of Champions.

Blake Hickman:

7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments  - Blake Hickman, Simeon HS, Chicago IL, 6’4 1/2 200, R/R, strong ML arm, pop times at best were 1.97 real time, has quick bat with occ power, body to fill out in time, potential ML backup catcher, would like to see him convert to the hill to utilize his arm strength, will go as far as bat takes him.
