Goose, K-Rod, Hisanori Takahashi, Jose Reyes... and YOUniform Contest

Goose:

Hall of Fame reliever Rich "Goose" Gossage does not care much for the antics of Francisco Rodriguez, who set the single-season save record for the Angels in 2008 and then signed with the New York Mets. In an interview with the New York Times, Gossage was asked about Rodriguez, the Yankees' Joba Chamberlain and other relievers who "gesture and dance around the mound."

"K-Rod is a clown," Gossage said. "I don't think there is any place for it in the game. You respect that other team." - link

K-Rod:

Gossage referred to K-Rod as a "clown" in a recent interview, citing Rodriguez's penchant for theatrics on the mound, but Rodriguez shrugged off Gossage's comment Tuesday. "I have no idea who he is," Rodriguez said.

"We all have an opinion," Rodriguez said. "That's his opinion and you've got to respect it. I don't care. It doesn't bother me at all." - link

Hisanori Takahashi:

For the second time this spring it appears Hisanori Takahashi will miss out on a chance to start, although that opportunity will come at some point before spring training is over. Takahashi, the Mets’ Japanese left-hander, was originally scheduled to start last Wednesday in Orlando but his inability to get a visa in time canceled that opportunity. The Mets were concerned he would be too tired. - link

Jose Reyes:

According to the New York Daily News, further tests have confirmed that Jose Reyes indeed has an overactive thyroid. The Mets are expected to release a statement later this evening that should give us all a bit more information. The issue is thought to be fully treatable and should only keep Reyes out for about a month - linkt

YOUniform CONTEST: Five designs have been chosen as finalists in the Brooklyn Cyclones YOUniform Contest. Now you can cast your vote!

Students between the ages of 5-16 submitted a baseball-and/or-Brooklyn-themed jersey design for consideration. Fans can now vote online for their favorite jersey, and the winning design will be announced on Wednesday, March 17th. The winner will receive a Cyclones prize pack, a framed jersey signed by the 2010 Cyclones, and will throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the game in which their YOUniform will be worn (date TBD). All entries will be showcased in an “art show” at the ballpark’s Brooklyn Baseball Gallery.  - link
