Gnats Blank Marlins 1-0
On a pitcher’s day with the wind blowing in, the Sand Gnats blanked the Marlins affiliate 1-0, Friday afternoon in Port St. Lucie.
Darren Gorski started for the Gnats, going four scoreless innings. “He mixed his pitches well” said Gnats Manager Pedro Lopez, “and he might be going with us to Savannah.” The left-handed Gorski was 3-4 with a 4.91 ERA for the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2009. The Mets picked him in the seventh round of the ’09 draft out of Kutztown (PA) College. Guillaume Leduc, Marcos Tabata and Brandon Sage each followed with two scoreless innings of their own in the 10-inning contest.
The game’s only run came on a Mike Jacobs solo home run. Jacobs, who had two at-bats, came down from Major League camp to get some more work. He also homered and doubled in four at-bats in the Advanced-A game. “I guess he was the player of the complex today,” said Lopez with a laugh.
Shortstop Wilmer Flores was 2-for-2 for Savannah and first baseman Jeff Flagg was 1-2.
