B-Mets: Saturday's Game Notes

LAST GAME: The B-Mets wasted no time taking an early lead

against starter Marty McLeary and the Fisher Cats in the cold

Friday night. The first three men reached against the veteran

righty before Lucas Duda cleared the bases with a three-run

double to the gap in left center. Later on, with the bases

loaded again, Mike Nickeas singled in a pair of runs, putting

Binghamton ahead 5-0 after an inning. McLeary was out of

the game after a third of an inning. Bubbie Buzachero didn’t

fare much better in the second. He allowed the first two to

reach on singles leading to Duda, who once again cleared the

bases, this time with a three-run homer to right. Zach Lutz

followed going back-to-back with Duda on a long homer down

the line in left to pit the B-Mets a 9-0 advantage. Starter Mike

Antonini worked five innings and allowed a pair of runs to pick

up the win. Nick Evans scored a pair of runs and went 3-5 with

three singles.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Eddie Kunz is scheduled

to make his second professional start this afternoon. He allowed

four runs, three earned, on two hits, both homers, to

beat Erie Monday. Last year, Kunz made 40 appearances for

Buffalo (AAA) with a 4-5 mark and a 5.02 ERA in 61 innings.

He functioned as the B-Mets closer in 2008 when he racked

up 27 saves. The righty was taken by the Mets in the second

round (42nd overall) in the 2007 draft.

RHP Bobby Bell gets the nod for the Fisher Cats. He allowed

four runs over five innings to take the loss at Reading last

Monday. Bell spent 2009 with Dunedin (High-A) where he

appeared in 42 games, 10 starts, with a 2.43 ERA in 96.1

innings with 112 strikeouts and a 4-1 record. He was an 18th

round choice in 2008 out of Rice University by Toronto.

LEAGUE-LEADING EVANS: Binghamton first baseman Nick

Evans is off to a torrid start in 2010. He leads the Eastern

League with 11 runs scored and slugging (.737), is tied for the

lead in homers (3). Evans is hitting .395 (15-38) over nine

games thus far, which ranks fifth in the league. He enjoyed his

second three-hit game of the season last night and has recorded

hits in seven of nine games this season, with multiple

hits in six of those contests.

OPPRESSIVE OFFENSE: A year ago, the B-Mets led the EL in

batting average with a .268 clip, but finished dead last in runs

scored, 550, which averages to 3.9 runs per game. This season

Binghamton is back at the top of the league in hitting with

a team average of .294 through nine games, but leads the

league in runs per game (6.4). The team is tops in the league

in homers (12), RBI (55), doubles (23) and walks (45), which

makes up for the team ERA (4.77), which is 11th in the EL
