Jose Coronado and Lucas Duda both hit solo homers off Fisher Cats starter Bobby Bell, but the B-Mets could not muster much more in the way of runs in a 10-3 shortcoming at the hands of New Hampshire Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium. The home run for Coronado was his third of the season matching a career high. Bell threw six innings and allowed two runs to pick up his second win of the season.
The Fisher Cats jumped on top in the first inning on an RBI single from David Cooper, which plated Darin Mastroianni who had doubled to start the inning off of starter Eddie Kunz.
Binghamton (8-7) evened the score in the second inning when Duda smoked a first-pitch fastball over the right-centerfield wall for his fourth homer of the season.
At that point, New Hampshire (9-5) took control, rattling off the next six runs to take the lead 7-1.
In the fifth, Coronado ripped a Bell offering over the wall in right to lead things off, getting the B-Mets within five, but that was as close as they would get. The Fisher Cats plated three more in the sixth off reliever Edgar Ramirez, the runs were unearned, however, due to a Coronado error. The second baseman committed two errors in the game, leading to four unearned runs.
Clint Everts spelled Ramirez in the seventh and proved to be the most effective pitcher of the night, tossing two scoreless innings with a strikeouts.
Binghamton’s final run came across in the eight off hard-throwing righty Trystan Magnuson. Duda singled into center with one out to start the rally. Wabick followed with a double over the head of leftfielder Eric Thames to put runners on at second and third. The next hitter, Luke Montz, plated Duda with a sacrifice fly to left, making it 10-3. Montz enjoyed his first multi-hit game of the season with a 2-3 showing.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis joined Montz and Duda with a two-hit night. The hits, a single and a double, came in the final at-bats of his 2-5 night.
Kunz surrendered five runs in four innings to take his second loss of the season. The righty walked four in the outing and has now issued 13 walks over 12.1 innings.
