Madden was aticvated off of the Binghamton disabled list yesterday… and released.
Madden was an 8th round draft pick by San Diego in the 2005 draft. He spent part of four seasons in their organization, pitching his best ball in 2008 for the A+ Lake Elsinore affiliate (2-3, 3.88, 1.35, 72.0-IP, 52-G, 45-K).
In 2009, he pitched 12 times for the B-Mets (0-0, 8.49).
Mets starters Johan Santana, John Maine, Jon Niese, Mike Pelfrey and Oliver Perez have combined to post a 1.39 ERA over their last 10 outings (two starts each). That's the lowest ERA by Mets starters over any 10-game stretch since July 1991, when Dwight Gooden, Frank Viola, David Cone, Ron Darling and Wally Whitehurst produced a 1.27 mark over 10 games. - link

2. Ike Davis -- Davis quickly gave the Mets reason to bring him up to the majors, drawing nine walks and hitting two home runs in 42 Triple-A plate appearances. He has already made his presence felt in the big leagues, totaling seven hits in his first 23 plate appearances. While he may be prone to striking out, his power and patience could carry him to a solid rookie season. - link

Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran's mammoth seven-year, $119 million deal from January 2005 showed that he had all of baseball's five tools but lacked a conditioned ocular enhancer: a gadget that throws numbered, colored tennis balls over 150 mph to help players pick up the speed of a pitched ball.
