TODAY’S GAME: Today, the Bisons take on the Pawtucket Red Sox in the third game of a four-game series from McCoy Stadium (1:05 p.m.). The series is tied one game apiece after the PawSox won 5-3 on Friday night and the Herd collected a 4-2 victory yesterday. Following Monday’s contest, the Bisons will return home for an eight-game homestand against Durham and Louisville.
vs. PAWSOX: The Bisons lead the season series against Pawtucket, 3-1. Buffalo swept of a rain-shortened two-game series over the PawSox at Coca-Cola Field, April 14-15. Dating back to last season, the Bisons have now won eight of their last 12 meetings with the Red Sox.
HOT TEJADA: INF RUBEN TEJADA has adjusted quite well to the Triple-A level. The 20-year old rookie has hit in five straight, including three multi-hit efforts. Since April 19, Tejada has averaged .455 (8-18) with three doubles and four runs scored. In just five games, Tejada has raised his average 153 points from .080 to .233.
SWELL SERVED: OF MIKE CERVENAK enters today’s game on a nine-game hit streak. While he has only averaged .243 (9-37) during the streak, his home run yesterday proved to be the game-winning hit. Cervenak has a chance to become the first Bisons’ batter to reach a 10-game hit streak this year. Fernando Martinez had a nine-game stretch, April 12-22.
ROSTER MOVE: The Bisons have activated INF MIKE JACOBS for today’s game. The 29-year old began the season with the Mets but was designated for assignment on April 18. With New York, Jacobs hit .208 (5-24) with a home run and two RBI in seven games. He reached base safely in every game but one for the Mets.
PROVEN POWER: INF MIKE JACOBS has proven himself as an elite slugger in baseball. Originally a 38th round pick of the Mets in the 1999 draft, Jacobs slugged 19 home runs with the Royals last season. In 2008, Jacobs posted career-highs with 32 home runs and 93RBI while playing in 141 games with the Florida Marlins. In 556 career major league games, Jacobs has slugged 100 home runs with the Mets, Marlins and Royals.
METS UPDATE: The Mets (9-9) evened their record for the first time since week one with a 3-1 victory over the Braves on Saturday. New York is now 5-1 on their homestand that started with a four-game series win against the Cubs. On Saturday, OF JASON BAY had three hits and former Bisons LHP JON NIESE tossed 5.1 innings of one-run baseball. New York goes for the series sweep today against the Braves.
