TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons host the Pawtucket Red Sox for the second game of a three-game series at Coca-Cola Field (4:05 p.m.). The Herd began their seven-game homestand with an 8-2 victory over the PawSox in the 2010 Home Opener. After tomorrow’s game, Buffalo will welcome in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the start of a four-game series against the Yankees.
vs. PAWSOX: The Bisons are 102-91 (.528) against the Red Sox since joining the International League in 1998. The Herd has won six of the last nine matchups with the PawSox and 37 of the last 64 (.578) since the 2006 season.
R.A. IS A-OKAY: RHP R.A. DICKEY tossed the Bisons’ first complete game of the season yesterday. The knuckleballer allowed just two runs on nine hits and struck out five. He threw a Bisons’ season-high 112 pitches, including 82 of them for strikes. Last season, Bisons pitchers combined to toss nine complete games, two more than any other International League team.
WE LIKE IKE: INF IKE DAVIS continues to be all over the base paths for Buffalo. He’s reached base twice in every game but one (4/13 at Syracuse) and boasts the fourth-highest on-base percentage in the International League (.500). Davis has drawn a league-high seven walks and his Bisons-high eight hits include three doubles and two home runs. With a .739 slugging percentage, Davis has a 1.239 OPS.
SLUGGIN’ DOU: Along with Davis, the Bisons have some big bats in the lineup with INF MIKE HESSMAN and OF CHRIS CARTER. Hessman went 3-4 yesterday with a double while Carter was a perfect 4-4 with two doubles and a triple. Coming into today’s game, Hessman ranks second in the International League with a .818 slugging percentage. Carter is in fourth in the IL with a .773 slugging percentage.
GONE STREAKIN’: A couple of Bisons’ hitters are starting some nice hit streaks. INF IKE DAVIS and INF RUSS ADAMS have each hit in four straight contests. Davis is hitting .308 (4-13) with a home run and five runs scored since Sunday in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while Adams has averaged .333 (5-15) with a double and two RBI over his stretch.
METS UPDATE: The Mets (2-6) lost in 10 innings to the Rockies last night, 6-5. New York forced extra frames by scoring a run in the eighth and ninth innings. OF JEFF FRANCOEUER and INF DAVID WRIGHT both homered for the Mets. Former Bisons LHP JON NIESE allowed five runs in five innings of a no-decision. The Mets look to avoid a three-game sweep to the Rockies this afternoon at 3:10 p.m.
