TODAY’S GAME: This afternoon, the Bisons take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in the final game of a four-game series from PNC Field (1:05 p.m.). The Herd is looking for the series win after rebounding from a 1-0 defeat on Opening Day with victories of 7-6 and 2-1. After today’s game, the Bisons will travel to Syracuse for a two-game set against the Chiefs. Wednesday is the team’s Home Opener against the Pawtucket Red Sox.
VS. THE YANKEES: Ahead 2-1 in the series, the Bisons can collect their first ever four-game series victory at PNC Field. Buffalo is just 10-17 (.370) at PNC Field since it opened in 2007. In fact, Buffalo has not won a completed four-game series in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since April 27-30, 1998 when they took three of four from the Red Barons.
GOSH GOLLY GEE: RHP DILLON GEE returns to the Bisons lineup this afternoon. The righty missed the final 98 games of last season because of a right shoulder strain. Gee was 1-3 with a 4.10ERA in nine starts with Buffalo in 2009, his first taste of Triple-A action. The 23-year old was 1-0 with a 3.18ERA in his last five starts prior to the injury. The Bisons were 5-4 when Dillon Gee started a season ago.
HOMERING HERD: It’s early, but the Bisons already have three home runs in their first three games. Buffalo had just 80 home runs all last season, the second-fewest in the International League. INF IKE DAVIS, INF MIKE HESSMAN and OF CHRIS CARTER have all showcased their power in the series with the Yankees. In 2009, the Bisons had just one batter, OF NICK EVANS, reach 10 in home runs.
NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: With his start yesterday, INF RUBEN TEJADA became the youngest person to play for the Bisons in almost 17 years. Tejada was 20 years and 165 days old yesterday, the youngest Bisons player since C ANGELO ENCARNACION (20y, 135d) played for Buffalo late in the 1993 season. OF FERNANDO MARTINEZ debuted with the Bisons at 20 years and 178 days on Opening Day old last season.
METS UPDATE: The New York Mets (2-3) fell to the Nationals yesterday by a 4-3 score. LHP OLIVER PEREZ took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks in 5.2 innings of work. OF JEFF FRANCOEUR went 2-4 with a double while OF JASON BAY scored twice. The rubber-match of the three-game series with Washington is this afternoon at Citi-Field (1:10 p.m.).
