Ike Plays Buffalo Today, Mets Cubs Probable Pitchers, Jeff Keppinger, Mike Cameron... and Livan Hernandez

Ike Plays Buffalo Today:

Mets prospect Ike Davis is batting fourth and playing first base for Triple-A Buffalo on Monday afternoon. If he's going to be called up, it probably won't happen for another few days. The Mets are worried that the hype will outweigh Davis' performance once he reaches the big leagues and haven't officially decided whether to promote him this week. He's batting .364 through 10 games at Triple-A.- link

Mets/Cubs Probable Pitchers:

Mon., 7:10 p.m.: RHP Randy Wells (1-0, 2.92) vs. LHP Jon Niese (0-1, 6.55)

Tues., 7:10 p.m.: RHP Carlos Zambrano (1-1, 9.45) vs. RHP Mike Pelfrey (2-0, 1.29)

Wed., 7:10 p.m.: RHP Carlos Silva (1-0, 0.69) vs. LHP Oliver Perez (0-1, 3.75)

Thurs., 7:10 p.m.: LHP Tom Gorzelanny (0-1, 1.93) vs. LHP Johan Santana (1-1, 3.00)

Jeff Keppinger:

When Brad Mills granted playing time to Jeff Keppinger during the first few games of the season, his intention was to simply give a few at-bats to a bench player, one who happens to hit left-handers very well (the Astros faced several lefties during their first two series). But Keppinger's bat caught fire, regardless of who he was facing, and that made it difficult -- impossible, really -- to take him out of the lineup. Given the Astros' 0-8 start to the season, there was no way to justifiably sit the one hitter who didn't go into a complete tailspin as soon as the exhibition season came to a close. - link

Mike Cameron:

Mike Cameron was sent to a local hospital Monday after complaining of more kidney stone-related symptoms. Cameron may have to pass another one. He's already been scratched from Monday morning's game against the Rays with Bill Hall filling in. - link

Livan Hernandez:

If you didn't get a chance to see today's performance, you missed out on the Nationals' most complete game of the season. The bats were working up and down the lineup, but Livan's complete game, 4-hit shutout was the story. Working off his standard 85 mph fastball, changeup and ridiculous 63 mph curve, Hernandez kept the Brewers off-balance all day without breaking a sweat. This performance follows on the heels of seven shutout innings against the Mets last week in Queens. 16 shutout innings by a starter to start the season is, no surprise, a DC franchise record. - link
