Draft Friday Night Notes

·         You’re going to read a lot about Duke’s Marcus Stroman today.  The Duke righthander struck out 17 George Washington batters… in seven innings.

·         There was an interesting game in Div2 play earlier this week. Seton Hall and LeMoyne combined for 13 home runs in the Hall’s 17-16 victory. I don’t have enough ink left to type out the list of players that jumped in here. Wait a minute, this isn’t a typewriter… do they still make carbon paper?

·         SS Giuseppe Papaccio led the Seton Hall Pirates over Wright State, 11-4. I managed to catch up with “G” online and he took us through his three-hit game:

"Today we played Wright State at UVA in the first game of a tournament.  I’m the Seton Hall Pirates junior starting shortstop, number 2.  I went 3-5 with an RBI and 3 singles.  I hit the second pitch of my first at bat for a line drive RBI single up the middle to score a run from second and I eventually scored in the second inning.  My second at-bat I singled to left field and, in my third at-bat, I singled to short center field and moved Chase Gray to third.  I popped out and struck out in my last two at bats.  I only made one play defensively in one attempt."

We have to get the Mets to draft this kid. I can hear the announcer now: “there’s a groundball to Giuseppe, who throws it to Valentino at first, backed up by Johnny Pants”.

·         Florida Atlantic’s No. 2 starting pitcher Jeremy Strawn out for the season - tear in his Latisimus tendon.

·         A scout on Alex Bregman:  Bregman has starred in High School as catcher and shortstop: "Right now we think of him as more of a second baseman”.

·         Arkansas’s Ryne Stanek just might be next year’s number pick in the draft. His line and speed check is below. For the season, he’s now 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA, Remember this name.

·         Oregon State beat Winthrop 9-4. Winthrop is 1-9 for the season. It’s also the school my granddaughter is going to next year. Sigh. I got talk to Gio.

Still think Stroman is too small to succeed at the next level?

I called that one, didn't I?
